Asked about pardoning Trump as president, DeSantis says he would be 'aggressive'
ABC via MSN ^ | 28 May 23 | ABC

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was asked on Thursday about potentially using his pardon power if elected president to offer clemency to Jan. 6 defendants or even Donald Trump -- and while he didn't answer directly, he suggested he would consider it.

DeSantis made his comments while appearing on the "The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show" amid an early media blitz one day after launching a bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

"A big part of being president is pardon powers. Do you think the Jan. 6 defendants deserve to have their cases examined by a Republican president? And if Trump, let's say, gets charged with federal offenses and you are the president of the United States, would you look at potentially pardoning Trump himself based on the evidence that might emerge of those charges?" Travis asked DeSantis.

The governor did not mention either Trump or any specific Jan. 6 cases by name but indicated he was open to the idea.

"We will be aggressive [in] issuing pardons," he said, arguing that the Department of Justice and FBI had become "weaponized" to pursue political rather than law enforcement goals.

Meaningless - his swamp connections, including supporting their War in Ukraine, puts to bed any claims of MAGA he may try to push.

It’s been a few days since DeSantis announced.

I was told once he announced, he would rocket up in the polls.

Do you have any predictions for polls released next week?

In spite of the insults and attacks by Trump, DeSantis remains a bigger man.

Nope. I don't make predictions and I don't rely on polls....especially this early.

What’s meaningless to me is Trump’s MTGA(make Trump great again) campaign. During his first term Trump gave us deadly drugs masquerading as vaccines, an award for Dr Fauci(but none for Thomas Sowell), and Chris Wray leading the FBI. I wonder what awaits us from Trump version 2? Maybe a Disney exec will head education? I can definitely resist finding out. But as far as President DeSantis pardoning Trump is concerned, I am in favor.

Trump and his brand have failed to win general elections in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Past his sell-by date. Time to move on.

“But as far as President DeSantis pardoning Trump is concerned, I am in favor.”

The Ukraine flip was what really got me, in that he was obviously told that his initial position (not our business) was ‘unacceptable’, so he did a 180. So, given that, it’s hard for us Trump supporters to see how DeSantis can EVER stand up to the uniparty.

Democrat response to one of their leaders being falsely indicted: let’s all meet in NYC and walk arm in arm with our leader into the police station for booking. Republican response: “I would give ‘consideration’ to pardoning if I am elected.”

No wonder we’re behind the eight ball.

Swamp is an interesting choice of words to characterize what Ron is against.

Swamp is in my vocabulary but I like to use terms which are more inclusive.

Like Deep State.

Like Uniparty.

Maybe one can say Ron stands against the swamp.

Swamp has become a fairly meaningless term much like “conservative”.

But I’m certain he doesn’t stand against the Uniparty which is his backer.

Words matter.

Ron can’t dodge Uniparty.

DeSantis will be lucky to make it to the SC primary. He’s being used to smoke out additional Deepstate RINOs and traitors for public consumption.

I softened on him a bit when he made his “territorial dispute” comment - but the “donor community” jerked his leash so hard he fell over, and flew to a foreign country to make amends by signing a (obviously unconstitutional) anti-free speech bill.

He’s out as far as I am concerned.

“He’s out as far as I am concerned.”

You’re like me, kept open-minded. It was a good dream thinking that we could have a clone of Trump, but without the baggage. Obviously, that person still hasn’t arrived!

Yes I agree.

Time to move on from Trump. This is going to involve the destruction of the GOP which I view as a positive step but which is not very popular here.

Quoting you from another thread: "This war is NOT about Ukraine’s independence or sovreignty. This war is about who get to grift more from Ukraine than the other."

Yet, you all behind DeSantis, who has flip-flopped on his position on the war and sided with GOP establishment and globalists.

DeSantis is as establishment as establishment gets. His donor list proves it. We know Trump isn't because the establishments of both parties have consistently tried to destroy him.

President Trump supplied Ukraine with aid before he froze it. Changing one’s mind once more facts are gathered is the mark of someone who can learn and lead from a more informed position. Both have shone this capability.

It’s Clinton’s fault that Ukraine got rid of the nuclear weapons that likely would’ve kept Russia at bay.
