DeSantis says he would welcome bill to abolish 'corrupt' IRS: 'We need something totally different'
Fox News ^ | 27 May 23 | Kyle Morris

Posted on 05/28/2023 1:33:16 AM PDT by Erik Latranyi

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would be "welcoming" of a measure from Congress to defund the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) if he's elected president next year.

The comments from DeSantis, who officially announced this week that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, came during a conversation with radio host and Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch on The Dana Show.

During the interview, DeSantis was asked whether he would sign a measure from Congress to abolish the IRS through funding means, as well as what he would replace the system with.

"Are you for a fair tax, a flat tax, where do you stand on that?" Loesch asked DeSantis.

"So, the answer's yes. I think the IRS is a corrupt organization and I think it's not a friend to the average citizen or taxpayer," DeSantis responded. "We need something totally different."

I've supported all of the single rate proposals, I think they would be a huge improvement over the current system and I would be welcoming to take this tax system, chunk it out the window and do something that's more favorable to the average folks."

DeSantis, who has repeatedly taken aim at the IRS for its unfair practices and crackdown on the middle class, said last August that an effort from the Biden administration to expand the IRS with 87,000 new agents was an indication of disrespect.

"Of all the things that have come out of Washington that have been outrageous, this has got to be pretty close to the top," DeSantis said at the time. "I think it was basically just the middle finger to the American public, that this is what they think of you."

Look folks, another Trump cultist LYING about DeSantis!

FACT: DeSantis voted for every flat tax proposal in congress.

FACT: DeSantis wants to reform Social Security and Medicare to keep them solvent.

If those are bad things, then you are not a conservative.

Trump, attacking from the left again. How is Trump's RINO buddy McCarthy doing? Oh, yes, he just sold us out on the debt ceiling negotiations.

Trump=RINOs

FACT: Trump took a lot of big lobbyist money, including over $10 million from groomer central Disney, whom Trump now defends.

Karl Rove on supporting DeSantis:

“It’s a myth. I’ve met the man one time. I think it was May of 2021 when he came to speak at a conference that we had here in Texas to reward the volunteers and donors to a big voter registration effort that we had in 2020 and and again in 2022. And I think I maybe exchanged ten words with him. So if I’m controlling him it’s by the superior use of my mind to, you know, to send radio waves to control he and his wife and give them directions and they receive them, I mean, you know, it’s a sign of something that Donald Trump is so worried about.”

Rove is opposed to Trump and will eventually support anyone he thinks can take Trump down. But Rove is not on the Desantis bandwagon - he prefers Scott or Haley.

If you have specific references showing that Ryan is working with Desantis - not just that he prefers Desantis to Trump (he probably prefers any other Republican to Trump), please provide them. I have searched and haven’t been able to find any such evidence.

You cultists amaze me.

Conservatives stand for reforming these social programs to ensure those that paid in get their money and that future generations get weaned off these programs.

But you cultists need to twist that into Marxism because your hero, Trump, had gone more and more left since 2020.

Trump received endorsements from many RINOs.  So what? That didn't make him a RINO.  This "guilt by association" or "guilt by endorsement" is not sane.

So DeSanctus is not a RINO, eh?  FRiend, I've got a guac bowl to see ya...

Wow, a cartoon meme as "evidence"?

You cultists are amazing at this debate stuff.

I have shown Trump's support of RINOs and his move to the left on issues like abortion, grooming, etc.

You have no evidence against DeSantis, but cartoons. Hilarious!

Trumps idea to f saving SS is to pay people to have babies. Not taxpayers or citizens, but lawless border crossers. He loves big pharma, big gov.. or maybe they just pay better.

Another easy promise to make that he has no intention of keeping. Even if he wanted to, he’d have to get Congress to go along with it. What’s he going to do? Wave his magic wand? His magic wand only works in Florida where he has a compliant legislature.

No. Just common sense. We’ve seen DeSantis’s type before. Either you’re new to following politics, or you’re just a slow learner.

Add this DeSantis promise to list of promises we’ve been getting from RINO’s for years - balanced budget amendment, term limits, etc.

And of course you didn’t respond to the other part of my comment about getting Congress to go along with it. DeSantis couldn’t get Congress to go along with him even if he wanted to - which he doesn’t. You don’t need to read minds to figure that out.

“Now that they have no independent income stream you want them to pay your share too.”

I never said a thing about wanting retirees to pay ‘my share too’....since I’m one of them.

I think a national sales tax with necessity items exempted and with luxury items taxed more...would be better than what we have now. You don’t purchase that nice, expensive shed for the back yard, you don’t pay the taxes on it. Same with other items you don’t have to have but still want to purchase. I know...because I catch myself buying stuff I can’t afford all the time but don’t really need. A higher sales tax on those items might keep me more frugal (a plus IMO).

But it’s moot anyway. They will never get rid of the income tax. We’re stuck with it.

Karl Rove on supporting DeSantis:...

I remember in November right after Election Day, I came out of root canal surgery, started my car and there was Karl Rove on my favorite talk radio station trashing Trump and pushing DeSantis. He did that elsewhere until he/they realized that he wasn't doing DeSantis any favors. So now he tries to act more impartial.

I’ll give you one thing, Erik. You are a respectful debater for your candidate.

But in the case of DeSantis, there’s a strong connection with RINOs like the Bushes, Paul Ryan, and Karl Rove.

Another point that makes it obvious is that key issues like voter fraud and January 6th are treated with kid’s gloves by your candidate.

And on immigration, DeSantis doesn’t seem to recognize Trump was the one driving the building of the Wall and keeping illegals out by other means as well.

So at best your candidate is MAGA-lite. But why support a young MAGA candidate when the guy who has been fighting courageously against our corrupt federal government and did an outstanding job as President is running?

Finally I am concerned that DeSantis will be owned by his donors if he should ever get in office.

And the flat tax does not penalize savings. If you save your money there is no tax on it. You only pay tax when you spend

Not oniy that. but the 23% (not 30%) would only be paid on new purchases. Income used to byused goods or saved would not be taxed at all

Trump thinks we are stupid.
