A Texas high school had to postpone its graduation after only a few of their seniors met graduation requirements.
While preparing for the ceremony, students at Marlin High School received a disappointing announcement on Wednesday that their graduation would be rescheduled for June. *** Some parents said that the move is not fair to the students who did pass the graduation requirements.
According to NPR, Marlin ISD Superintendent Darryl Henson said a review of attendance, grades and credits found that only five out of 33 seniors initially met graduation requirements. The school tried to work with students and was able to "help an additional 12 students resolve missing credits and other issues as of Wednesday evening."
However, despite their efforts, it was not enough and the district put out the statement to families about the graduation postponement to "provide more time for students to meet necessary requirements for graduations, many of whom did not meet requirements due to attendance or grades."
This comes after the recent results of the national test scores that showed sharp declines in math and reading.
Math scores saw their largest declines ever, while reading scores dropped to levels not seen since 1992 for fourth and eighth graders across the country, according to the Nation’s Report Card. The average mathematics score for fourth-grade students fell five points from 2019 to 2022. The score for eight-graders dropped eight points. Reading for both grades fell three points since 2019."
Math scores were worst among eighth graders, with 38% earning scores deemed "below basic" — a cutoff that measures, for example, whether students can find the third angle of a triangle if they’re given the other two. That’s worse than 2019, when 31% of eighth graders scored below that level.

Here in Austin Texas, students are generally advanced to the next grade due to “equity.” The whole system is rigged to produce a nation of people dependent on the government AKA Democrats.
No one will ever discuss the elephant in the room.
Why can’t Jerome read?
Pathetic! Future bosses, these are your future employees you will have to manage. Good luck!
You misspelled Ja'rom. Hope this helps!
It’s always great when they can find those missing credits (semesters) in a day or two.
Off to the re-education camps I go.
“Postpone” for what? So they have time to fudge the numbers of the idiots who can’t tell their ass from their elbow?
Cum’on man! Remove all requirements and let them all graduate. The democrats want a nation of illiterate, ignorant, illegal, immoral, idiots.
Have the teachers from that school demanded raises yet?
I guess nowadays the "counselors" do other things...
“Initial interna”?
The sad thing is the teachers union will defend the teachers who failed these students and they probably will get a raise. Any parent who has any love for their children will work two or three jobs and eat Ramen noodles for every meal if thats what it takes to pay for private school. I dare say that less than 10% of public school teachers could pass a high school equivalency exam.
Marlin is deep in the old Brazos Valley cotton belt, so I’m actually surprised there are even that many whites…
great odds on being top in the class.
I remember reading an article years ago (wish I had saved it) regarding names and employment opportunities in the business world. The author said that the hyphenated names will limit executive jobs and for parents to keep this, and any name out of the norm, in mind when naming their children.
Depending on what the deficiencies actually are, summer school could be completed in a month.
Surely the 5 who did fulfill graduation requirements could get their diplomas early.
Just spell cat and your valedictorian
You notice half the article is about the dreaded national test scores which teachers love to complain about —”We have to teach to the test...” — but that isn’t why they are not graduating. They didn’t attend and did not make passing grades in enough classes.
The kids, their parents, the Principals and lastly the teachers are all asleep at the switch — the train de-railed.
Meanwhile, kids from Asia are eating our lunch.
