Ukraine is ready to launch its long-expected counter-offensive against Russian forces, one of the country's most senior security officials has told the BBC.
Oleksiy Danilov would not name a date but said an assault to retake territory from President Vladimir Putin's occupying forces could begin "tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or in a week".
He warned that Ukraine's government had "no right to make a mistake" on the decision because this was an "historic opportunity" that "we cannot lose".
As secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Mr Danilov is at the heart of President Volodymyr Zelensky's de facto war cabinet.
His rare interview with the BBC was interrupted by a phone message from President Zelensky summoning him to a meeting to discuss the counter-offensive.

I believe the Attack will come with a feint at Russia herself and Crimea with the real attack to cut the land bridge to Crimea. Goal to push Russians back to the sea of Azmov. Also, blow up the bridge to Russia. It will achieve great success, at first, Defeating Russian armies and taking land—where they may well be greeted as Liberators. But then things will go bad and the invasion will stall. It will be a replay of the Battle of the Bulge. Lots of folks will die and in the end—they will be pushed back. Five weeks at best and it will all be done. This will be the end of the war. We shall see if I am right.

The West is panicking with rumors of Ukraine ceding the four regions and a 100 km DMZ where no Ukrainian troops can enter. China is seeing her position as a peacemaker on the rise.
Elsewhere the G7 is seen as a group that wants wars and even nuclear conflict.
The world has grown tired of Washington treating them to threats and harsh terms if they buy cheap oil or fertilizer and food from Russia.
Biden’s Obama handlers have screwed the pooch. Pushing an offensive will not help Ukraine at this point.
Russia has 1000 tanks in center of the line per recent reports and over 500 on those flanks. Ukraine has about 250 tanks and less than 80 of western origin.
My guess is that Ukraine right now is going to try to make one more push. They have the manpower for it. But that's all they have. They can't make any mistakes. Their demographics are going to doom them.
The Russians should have waited until 2030 to try to take Ukraine. Ukraine wouldn't be able to defend itself by then. But Putin is an old man. Who knows if he'll be alive by then. So that's why he's going for it now.
