John Fetterman Is a Lesson for Republicans Resisting Trump: GOP Congressman
Newsweek ^ | 26 May 23 | Fatma Kahled

Posted on 05/26/2023 8:33:09 AM PDT by Erik Latranyi

Florida Representative Byron Donalds urged Republicans to unite and rally behind Donald Trump in 2024, citing Democrats' support of Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

"For the Republicans who've had issues with Donald Trump, let me remind you that Democrats rallied behind John Fetterman," tweeted Donalds, an avid Trump supporter. "Democrats are about victory & victory only. Republicans must support our nominee, unite, & bring commonsense & America-First policies back to Washington."

Trump announced his 2024 presidential bid in November, even though some Republicans have expressed that they want to back other candidates who seem more favorable to the GOP. The former president is now facing his biggest challenger in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who launched his presidential campaign on Wednesday.

By citing Fetterman as an example of party support, Donalds on Thursday said in a video that he posted to Twitter that Democrats are focused on victory and don't care about whether "you want to support the nominee or not."

Fetterman is currently serving his first term as the senator from Pennsylvania after defeating Republican Trump-endorsed candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz last November. Concerns were raised before the midterm elections over Fetterman's health after he suffered a stroke in May, just a few days before the state's primary, but he still received endorsement for the Senate seat to replace Republican Pat Toomey. The Democrat was also endorsed by The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board.

Trump received backlash from his own party after his endorsed candidates lost in some races in the midterms, squashing the "red wave" expected in Congress.

Fetterman is a lesson not to trust Trump because he is undermining conservatism (and conservative candidates) to install dual-citizen, pro-groomer, pro-gun control RINOs.

Eff Trump.

We think for ourselves and if you foist a bad choice on us, don't expect us to hold our nose and vote for them.

Trump is no different than the RINOs forcing McCain and Romney on us.

“Republicans must support our nominee”

Trump is not the nominee yet.

More like the massive fraud of mail in ballots in Philly.

Until you fix that, nothing will change.

For the record, most Democrats voted by mail (ballot harvesting) long before they knew about Fetterman’s incapacity (which the media helped hide).

When the debate took place between Fetterman and Dr Azz, the #1 search term on Google was “how do I change my vote”.

But those mail-in ballots were locked in place and Fetterman won easily.

Trump is not the nominee yet.

He will be. And I'm a big DeSantis fan.

Trump is not the nominee yet.

This sense of entitlement on the part of Trump and the Trump cultists (not all Trump supporters are cultists) is really turning people off.

The debate helped Fetterman tremendously - took the focus entirely off of his radical, extreme record and instead allowed the media / Dems to create a sympathy factor, phrases like “why should a disabled man who wants to serve his country be excluded from public office?”, etc.

The Congressman’s message is that Donald Trump is brain damaged and incompetent, and therefore, everyone should support him over all the available alternatives? I’m confused by the causality here.

It’s not on Trump to learn any lessons about picking worthwhile MAGA candidates, it’s about the voters supporting his choices no matter what. Sure, Jan.

Wether one likes Trump or not, Comparing him with Fetterman is a poor comparison. Ideologies aside, at least Trump is cognizant and alert. He doesn’t need a teleprompter to recite from or answer questions from.

Each election, about 10% of Republicans vote for the Democrat.

This was true before Trump, and that number did not grow when Trump arrived. Never Trumpers are not some novel thing in politics. They are the same meaningless fringe that 10% has always been.

Note the Dems have the same 10% issue.

One more time. Trump did not win in 2016 because the GOP total of the US suddenly grew. He won because in WI, MI and PA a lot of people who voted for Obama, mostly independents, voted to Build The Wall, Drain the Swamp and America First In All Things.

They didn’t give a DAMN about 0.5% of GDP declines in govt spending or other pointless, tiny adjustments to Swamp activity focused on by the GOPe. They focused on Upheaval. They wanted the Swamp attacked. They aren’t GOP voters. They are anti Swamp voters.

Want DeSantis to win? Have him stand up and reject support from the GOPe filth in Washington, and lets define that as anyone involved in politics over 6 years. Simple measurement. Hold office for 6 years? You’re Swamp filth.

Of course, that includes him.

The GOPe and Conservative Inc. always take the path of least resistance. In this case it’s “supporting” Trump and punting to 2028.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Good night. I don’t see that as helping him.
But the votes were probably locked in already.

Plus the MSM knew about it and covered it up.
The GOP-e knew about it and sat there doing nothing other than running a candidate the Base didn’t want.

I think you are correct.
And I like DeSantis too!
I’d rather having him continue to fix FL and show the GOP how to fix their Red States before it is too late.

The Rinos expect to have MAGA support but the RINOs don’t support the MAGA candidates. So if RINO is the nominee I won’t be voting for it.
