Americans say average family needs $85,000 to get by: Gallup

A new poll found that Americans believe that the average family needs to make a minimum of $85,000 annually to get by, a major increase from just a decade ago.

The Gallup poll shows about a 46 percent increase in the perceived average income a family of four needs compared to 2013, when American put the figure at $58,000 annually.

“The rise in perceived necessary income to support a family of four highlights the economic pressure facing American households as high inflation stretches into a second year,” the poll results read.

About 31 percent of respondents said that the minimum annual income a family of four needs to make is between $50,000 to $75,000 per year, while 30 percent of respondents said the family’s annual income should be at least $100,000. Those saying that a family of four needed an income of at least $100,000 tripled from 2013, when only 10 percent selected that bracket.

$85K is not going to make in major cities and even burbs. People like their 450,000 homes and weekend toys such as jet skis and motorcycles.

Over the years they have replaced ‘earned’ by ‘make’, implying that it doesn’t really matter where the money comes from.

People like their 450,000 homes

Even homes at that price are much smaller than they used to be.

Or lawfully only tax income and if they want a direct tax on wages it must be apportioned.

Remember when they arbitrarily doubled the minimum wage 10 years ago? Did no one foresee what would happen? When the government injects more money into the economy, things get more expensive. Duh.

Getting by means:

-Having cellphones for each family member
-Four big-screen TVs in the house
-Eating out every night, or using Door Dash for every meal

Real median household income was $70,784 in 2021, not statistically different from the 2020 estimate of $71,186.

Source: https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2022/demo/p60-276.html

So those at the media AND BELOW are, by The Hill's reporting, screwed to the economic wall. Such is the Democrat Party "of the people and for the little guy."

Median meaning half more or less, of 335 million Americans, 167 million Americans are falling behind. This is the Obama-Biden plan, the corporate America plan, the expensive universities' plan, the bureaucrats' plan.

Maybe the rubes will begin to wake up and smell the poverty being provided by the Democrats and RINOs. Maybe not.

We commonly used ‘make’ back in the 50’s.

Blake Masters said a family should be able to get by on one income. No one believed it-neither do I. Get rid of 50% of the government. Let the chips fall where they may.

“The good lord put me don this earth to work 6 days a week” My contractor’s quote. At least it wasn’t me.

I think he has something there. 6 days a week/6 hour days. A 36 hour work week would allow more family time and 7-8 hours of productivity in 6. Plus he/she’d be too tired/busy to get into trouble. The 50% government cut would free up a lot of labor and money.

I would guess a good chunk of Americans have never tracked their spending and have no idea of what their lives cost, let alone what they could cut with impacting them.

People would need less income if the feds would just reduce their take.

Besides that, the feds MAKE living more expensive for everyone when they issue regulations that make housing, transportation, food, energy and health care more expensive.

Every safety or emissions gizmo required in a new car for sale in the US adds to the cost. I bet a 1968 Dodge Dart AS IT WAS in 1968 could be made and sold for $12,000 if mass-produced in a right-to-work state.

I listened to the execrable NPR on the drive to work (once in a while I check in to remind me how insane they are) and they were celebrating the GREAT news that consumer spending is high and wages have risen POINT FOUR PERCENT!!! WOW!!! POINT FOUR PERCENT.

They neglected to mention the Bidenflation... The economy is ROARING with Biden in charge. People are spending more money than ever!!!
