Ron DeSantis’ 2024 campaign launch ran into a few glitches on Wednesday evening, but it wasn’t long before he hit his stride. After spending 75 minutes talking policy with Elon Musk, the Florida man shifted over to do primetime interviews with Mark Levin and Trey Gowdy before holding a tele-town hall with voters. He’s scheduled to cap his roll-out off in Iowa on Tuesday with an in-person rally at a baseball stadium.
Still, the headlines from the mainstream press weren’t kind to DeSantis. Many proclaimed his launch to be a “disaster,” with some going so far as to claim his campaign was already over. Well, that narrative was firmly put to bed after the 24-hour donation numbers were released for the newly-minted DeSantis campaign.
In a stunning, record-setting haul, $8.2 million was raised in just a single day, and that’s exactly why you should always be skeptical of what the press says (The New York Times).
"Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida raised $8.2 million in his first 24 hours as a presidential candidate, his campaign said on Thursday, a huge sum that cements his standing as the leading rival to Donald J. Trump.
Mr. DeSantis’s campaign began on Wednesday evening with a glitch-filled kickoff on Twitter, but that apparently did not slow donor enthusiasm. The campaign said on Wednesday that it had raised $1 million during a single hour.
The $8.2 million figure is more than the $6.3 million that Joseph R. Biden Jr. raised in his first 24 hours as a candidate in 2019, or the $6.1 million haul raised by former Representative Beto O’Rourke that same year."
Besting Biden’s formally-record-setting total by $1.9 million is no small feat. It’s also important to remember that campaign donations are capped at a fairly low amount, unlike donations to Super PACs where big-time donors like to send their money. That means that almost all of that $8.2 million would have to have come from normal, small-dollar donors around the country. There’s no way to spin that other than being impressive.
Does that mean DeSantis is going to romp his way through the primary? I have no idea, and I think that’s a perfectly good answer at this point in the campaign. Anyone telling you with any certainty what will happen is just telling you what they want to believe. We are seven months out from the first primary and there’s a ton that can change between now and then. In fact, history would suggest that we should all be ready for some surprises as we head into the fall.
For now, the candidates will be doing their best to get their message out there and to draw support. I think that’s what DeSantis’ huge fundraising total amounts to right now. It’s evidence that his candidacy is the real deal (you can’t fake small-dollar donations) and that he’s going to draw a lot of interest going forward. He’ll also have the resources to implement the infrastructure needed to compete. What that amounts to in the end will be decided when voters have their say. I’m comfortable with that arrangement.
The problem with your idea of Trump bringing in people is that he hasn’t shown any ability to do so. He had majorities in 2017, then lost seats in 2018 and 2020, and wasn’t successful in getting his people elected in 2022. No reason to believe that would change in 2024.
And what did he do to make a deal to accomplish his goals? Why was he so politically impotent? And what exactly would be different if he were elected in 2024?
PS Twitter is always broken. Always buffering like it is 1999. DeSantis and his staffers should have know better and shouldn't have trusted Elon Musk.
That is the main reason I supported Trump.
Instead, Trump did not throw a consequential counter punch against the Political Left during his entire four year term.
The Left never feared Trump, and most of the Republican leadership was afraid to have any association with him.
Were the donations from the grass roots, or Ron’s wealthy donor class? Musk could have slipped him a couple of million.
“I raised $100 million but have no support.”
“Please clap.”
Ever since DeSantis went national, he has made one blunder after another.
Weak response to the Mara Lago raid. Then to backfill he claimed he would ignore an extradition request (would have been fun to call that bluff)
Blunder on the NY Stormy Daniels indictment, by subject-checking “pornstar” to try to puff himself up, instead of focus on the legal abuse.
Ridiculous launch. Instead of just doing a speech in front of a big, cheering crowd.
(Not to mention the bizarre Eighth Day of Creation Ad. With DeSantis we were supposed to go back to Bush/Romney. Instead we get David Koresh)

I am not suggesting there will or will not be one, but would you be impressed by large one and switch your allegiance? Consider that Trump came down his gold plated escalator with just a few people around. That work for him. Biden often had just a few people spaced out in circles, and that, plus Election shenanigans with him the election. I know it sounds silly, but maybe size doesn’t matter? Consider the shall we say interesting kick off on Twitter, that may have created some criticism and ridicule, because it didn’t go off perfectly, but look at the results. They overloaded it, and now we hear their record donations afterwards.
DeSantis has not even had a rally yet, and it's now being suggested the size of rallies don't matter.
How sad is this? This is like Jeb Bush all over again.
I will vote for Trump or Vivek Ramaswamy. No one else. Ronny is a liar. I don’t vote for liars
One minute he is praising the J6 committee and says the protestors need to be jailed, and the next he “might” pardon them.
Twice he said he wasn’t running for president. He should have never run for governor if that was his plan all along
No, not at all. And it’s silly, to keep bringing up Jeb Bush. DeSantis is nothing like Jeb bush. Maybe it gives you comfort. But it’s not fair or honest.
DeSantis sacrificed ever being elected on the national level. He’ll figure this out as he’s pulled into the wood chipper.
“Those rich Trump supporters are his friends for long time.
Where as Mr. Career politician DeSantis has all new rich friends who were hurt by Tariffs Trump imposed on China”
Good point.
If the political establishment wants Trump in the general, why are they unleashing so much lawfare on Trump?
DeSantis also has a lot for FORMER Trump donors backing him.
DeSantis has the donor class behind him, no doubt.
What he does not have are the voters.
Haul from who andhow much?
Without full info it could be a few big donors as somehave said they planned to bigly support ron deepstatis. Or could be planned donations in a way to make it appear big amount.
Nothing is as it seems when dealing with liar, deceiver, ron deepstatis.
If its God’s plan, then no back up plan is needed.
He tells anyone who wants to hear it dont fear or worry.
What/Who is your faith in? Some plan b, man made, fools errand puppet?
Since I seriously doubt Deep State is funding Trump, I really don’t think DeSantis wants to go there...
Trump didn't need to lift a finger, it crashed all by itself.
