The founder of the Oath Keepers extremist group was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for orchestrating a weekslong plot that culminated in his followers attacking the US Capitol in a bid to keep President-elect Joe Biden out of the White House after the 2020 election.
Stewart Rhodes is the first person charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack to be sentenced for seditious conspiracy, and his sentence is the longest that has been handed down so far in the hundreds of Capitol riot cases.
It’s another milestone for the Justice Department’s sprawling Jan. 6 investigation, which has led to seditious conspiracy convictions against the top leaders of two far-right extremist groups that authorities say came to Washington prepared to fight to keep President Donald Trump in power at all costs.
Before handing down the sentence, the judge told a defiant Rhodes that he is a continued threat to the US, saying it’s clear Rhodes “wants democracy in this country to devolve into violence.”
“The moment you are released, whenever that may be, you will be ready to take up arms against your government,” US District Judge Amit Mehta said.
*** Prosecutors had sought 25 years for Rhodes, who they say was the architect of a plot to forcibly disrupt the transfer of presidential power that included “quick reaction force” teams at a Virginia hotel to ferry weapons into DC if they were needed.
The weapons were never deployed.

Maybe I should have just said they have it. The report I read said they have it. I was just keeping with the legal jargon I was forced to use in my career in corrections. Any document you wrote regarding an incident, you always had to use the required terms approximate, alleged, etc., because they could be called into court as evidence at any given time.

Just glancing, I didn’t notice anything that would merit such a sentence.
The guns seem to have been left in Virginia.
He should have gotten a tranny legislature stormer level sentence.

My opinion is that they were a large bunch of gun-loving wackos probably misled by government provocateurs.
Now be aware that Pence has reason to believe that Biden won’t last a full term and that Commie-LA may not qualify as a natural born citizen as per the 1730 British law since her father wasn’t one and therefore Pence would be the Vice President that gets to replace a demented Biden.
If Biden was proven not to have won, Trump would be President and able to serve four years, leaving no real chance for Pence to become President.

This judge is so good, he can even predict the future behavior of an accused. No doubt the reasoning for the sentence he handed out.

“I don’t see or hear ANY prominent politicians speaking out consistently in favor of him or any of the other January 6 Political Prisoners.”
Which should tell the rest of us that it’s best to lay low as friends, family, neighbors and coworkers will be very happy to turn you in to the FBI and then you are on your own, having to rely on a public defender.
The folks you went out and fought for will send a “Sucks to be you!” message or maybe some thoughts and prayers if you are lucky.
