The founder of the Oath Keepers extremist group was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for orchestrating a weekslong plot that culminated in his followers attacking the US Capitol in a bid to keep President-elect Joe Biden out of the White House after the 2020 election.
Stewart Rhodes is the first person charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack to be sentenced for seditious conspiracy, and his sentence is the longest that has been handed down so far in the hundreds of Capitol riot cases.
It’s another milestone for the Justice Department’s sprawling Jan. 6 investigation, which has led to seditious conspiracy convictions against the top leaders of two far-right extremist groups that authorities say came to Washington prepared to fight to keep President Donald Trump in power at all costs.
Before handing down the sentence, the judge told a defiant Rhodes that he is a continued threat to the US, saying it’s clear Rhodes “wants democracy in this country to devolve into violence.”
“The moment you are released, whenever that may be, you will be ready to take up arms against your government,” US District Judge Amit Mehta said.
*** Prosecutors had sought 25 years for Rhodes, who they say was the architect of a plot to forcibly disrupt the transfer of presidential power that included “quick reaction force” teams at a Virginia hotel to ferry weapons into DC if they were needed.
The weapons were never deployed.

Meanwhile the FBI supposedly has the license number and type of car for the person who left the pipe bombs at the RNC and DNC, but refuse to name the prime suspect. They weren’t so slow in naming Richard Jewell as the potential Atlanta bomber.
Killers and rapists receive hand slaps. no bail sometimes, and short sentences and the like, while being foolish enough to have participated in this foolishness on J6 is hammered by "the color of law."
Sedition by the ruling elite in DC is on full display.
Uhm....Judge, This country’s evolution hinges on a polite, limited government, for the people. The violent part is outlined in the constitution as a remedy to an out of control government, of which you sir, are a prime example of.

Did he have a thought crime they didn’t like? From what I recall, nothing happened on Jan 6th except 1 incent person was shot by the capitol police. The person that shot her walked. Where’s the just in that?

Who was the judge? Bet if it was the other way around, the defendant would draw a suspended sentence if prosecuted at all. Washington DC and NYC juries, judges and prosecutors are in the finest tradition of the Third Reich judicial system when it comes to their political opposition

No weapons. No violence. No evidence of an agreement, overt acts or other proof of planned attack. No evidence of money supplied. Literally smear jobs and not being a democrat is what this guy was charged with.

I don’t see or hear ANY prominent politicians speaking out consistently in favor of him or any of the other January 6 Political Prisoners.
Guess I’d better not say this smells of leftwing judicial BS or I might be thrown in prison on a charge of participating in an extremely dangerous violent conspiracy.

The FBI’s Assistant Director for Counterintelligence was asked by a House committee in a hearing this week whether she had read the Durham Report, which was replete with agency criminality, destruction of records, misleading of federal courts, slandering of those known to be innocent, pursuance of a federal investigation lasting years and costing tens of millions based on lies in a report from the Hillary Clinton campaign, attempting to overturn the 2016 presidential election, and interfering in the 2020 election. No, she hadn’t read it, she replied and acted as if she has no intention of reading it.
Once again... it’s not the veracity of the charges, but the seriousness of the crime. Someone dared say something mean about their governing betters and must be made an example of.
I have my own issues with Stewart and the fact that OK are most certainly NOT an extremist group.
This is exactly the kind of thing 3rd World banana Republics do and exactly the kind of thing we’ve been afraid we were heading towards...
Well, we’re here. There is only ONE remedy from this point and well written editorials and tossing our hopes at the feet of the Courts ain’t it...
