During WW2, Private First Class John DeGennaro served as a United States Marine during the Battle of Iwo Jima in the 5th Div, 13th Marines Battalion. DeGennaro joined the Marines early at 17-years-old, & was trained in the art of sound ranging. His job was to use microphones to find enemy artillery batteries, then direct fire at those batteries to knock them out. At the end of the Iwo Jima campaign, he & his unit had knocked out 50 Japanese artillery batteries & received a Presidential Citation. Before leaving the island, he witness the first American flag raised on Mount Suribachi through a telescope.
Good evening, radu...did you get any dry time today? Rain?
My rain gauge has a few drops in it, and a couple flying things, from over night. The street was all wet this morning.
