I'm Boycotting Major League Baseball. Here's Why You Should Too.

I truly love baseball. But more than baseball, I love God. Given the decision between being a fan of any sports team and supporting my religious beliefs, I know that God is my real captain and I will always choose my faith. And I believe that when push comes to shove, most people feel the same. I also recognize that it is my religious obligation to support other people of faith in their journey.

Which is why I am so sad that I will not be attending baseball games thanks to the irresponsible management of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Major League Baseball, following the team’s blatant attack on Catholics by deciding to honor one of the most public anti-Catholic fringe groups in the country, “The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.”

For those unaware of this group, or the circumstances leading up to this decision, here is a brief synopsis of the last few weeks. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is an organized group of transvestites that consciously encourages hate against Catholics, Catholic clergy, and the Catholic Church through demonstrations where their male members dress as nuns and espouse hatred towards Catholicism. They preach “go forth and sin more,” have names like “Sister Broken Hyman” and “Father Fellatio,” and have made “saints” of Harvey Milk, Kathy Griffin, and Gavin Newsom. Catholic League President Bill Donohue has called them “an obscene anti-Catholic group” of “bigots known for simulating sodomy while dressed as nuns”, and they have been decried by Catholic leaders around the world from archbishops to politicians. On May 15, MLB and the Dodgers announced that they would be honoring this group and presenting them with the “Community Hero Award” at the Dodgers LGBT Night on June 16.

I was a huge baseball fan growing up....lost all interest.

Me too, a big Seattle Mariner's fan either at the ballpark or watching the games on TV.

Then, about 6 years ago they had 'Gay Family Night at the Ballpark'.

That was it, no longer a Mariners or pro sports fan at all.

Trumps is right, "Everything that's Woke turns to sh%t!"

Maybe this will help: how many precious limited hours of your life are you willing to waste watching other people making millions entertaining you but also insulting you? It’s not like the players on any team have any particular connection to or care about their team. They’re all just mercenaries who signed on with the highest bidder.

I vaguely heard of this organization. True to form Wikipedia describes the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in a positive light, basically a bunch of LGBT affirming street artists who “raise awareness” about AIDS and discrimination against”sexual minorites” and stuff. They have a right to express themselves, it doesn’t mean we have an obligation to listen, let alone support them.

Are the Dodgers planning a night to make fun of Islam?

When my dad played in the minors he knew Ed Kranepool. Kranepool graduated from Monroe HS, a few years after my mom went there. I had cousins who lived near Shea. I remember seeing it under construction. It was across the Grand Central Pkwy from another great institution, the Lemon Ice King of Corona 🙂. I still miss Shea

This dope should have lost interest in MLB when they took the All-Star Game away from Atlanta over Georgia’s totally harmless voting law.

Colorado already had similar voting laws to the new Georgia laws when they moved the game. What a bunch of dopes...

Same here. Since the ‘94-’95 strike I haven’t watched a single inning of MLB.

I am sort of Cardinals fair weather fan. I haven’t been to a game in some 30 years and certainly wouldn’t go now. I was fortunate to go to the 7th game of the 82 World Series. I don’t remember a darn thing about the game. That can be chalked up to adult beverages. A few years before, I spent a few weeks in Philadelphia waiting for a flight overseas to a new duty station. I went to several of the Phillies home games. Mike Schmidt was the Phillies slugger at the time. The first game I went to, he struck out 4 times in a row and the fans booed him unmercifully. The next game I went to he had a couple of upper deck home runs and the crowd went nuts...

I can't boycott MLB.

I'd first have to lift the boycott I've had in place since the strike-shortened 1994 season, and I WON"T DO THAT (cue the Meatloaf). Not until everyone who was involved in that strike is out of the game.

It's called "America's Game" for a reason; the players DON'T OWN IT. It was unforgivable to play (most of) the entire season, then pull the plug on the cusp of the LCS.

It's not their game and they had NO RIGHT to do what they did. They had the power, yes, obviously, but not the right. And I will never forgive the player's union for the abuse of power.

I lived in the projects in the Bronx, just across the East River from Flushing. I watched them build Shea from my bedroom window on the seventh floor, along with the World’s Fair and the Throggs Neck Bridge. I could see the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows with a pair of Binoculars. I left NY in 1974 as soon as I was discharged from the USN. When I moved here to SoCal, I worked with Scott Kiner, Ralph Kiner’s son. It sure is a small world.

They may have shown up and not known. One of my last NHL games was a “pride” night game. I had a 10 game ticket package and there was nothing to indicate it would be that kind of game.
