It was a week ago when Farmington, New Mexico was rocked by a deadly rampage shooting that left three people dead. No doubt, it rattled some cages there.
So, I don’t suppose anyone should be surprised that now lawmakers are using that deadly shooting to try and push more gun control. Disappointed, maybe, but surprised? Not really.
Tomorrow will mark one week since a young gunman shot and killed three people in Farmington. Since then, more elected leaders are calling for stricter gun control and enhancing criminal charges.
KOB 4 spoke with state lawmakers from both major parties Sunday.
Democrats have made the most noise this week, and we asked them about plans for the next legislative session. Gun control was a hot topic during the session this year, but not many of the bills introduced became law.
While the governor signed the Bennie Hargrove Act, both the assault weapon ban and the 14-day waiting period died in committee. Now the governor is re-upping those calls.
…
Some lawmakers are already preparing to reintroduce bills like the assault weapon ban, while others say we need to take a different approach.
“I’m so grateful for the call the governor made, but we need to take this next step and figure out what we need to do next,” said state Rep. Andrea Romero.
Romero introduced a bill last session that would regulate the possession, sale, and transfer of assault weapons in New Mexico. That bill didn’t make it to the governors’ desk or even the House floor.
“We are seeing these perpetrated crimes with these automatic weapons of war across the country and of course we saw the weapon being used in Farmington was an AR-15, and that would have fallen under an assault weapons ban,” said Romero.

How much more gun control can they push?
There is only one gun store in all of Mexico. So why is gun violence soaring?
They claim that most of Mexico's gun violence is perpetrated from guns smuggled in from the North.
Maybe Mexico should build a wall, or at least, you know, help pay for one?
Automatic grenade launchers don’t need rifled barrels.
I’m sure more gun laws will stop criminals from obtaining firearms illegally and killing people. (SURE!)
New Mexico should adopt the gun-control laws of California and Chicago and New York. They have strict laws in those states and cities. Nobody has died in those areas after their gun-control laws were passed.
Count the lies. Apparently the upshot is that an AR-15 used to kill someone would have been illegal. As if killing someone isn't.
“Tomorrow will mark one week since a young gunman shot and killed three people in Farmington. ”
WHOA! You mean a person was responsible for this?! The democraps and Pravda media say it’s ALL the fault of the guns. Gosh, this is so confusing....
“NEW Mexico”. The one between Texas and Arizona. 😁👍
Had me going for a minute there. So you’re writing about Old Mexico. I was thinking about New Mexico.
Those university and bureaucrat types think they own that state. They have another think coming.
Actually, they do: the round has to spin enough times to arm the fuze. That, and smoothbore weapons aren't particularly accurate right?
Didn't spend a whole lot of time in uniform, did we?
LOL @ ME!
I entirely missed the Nuevo part in the headline...
Texas-bus the illegals there. The can change the name back to Mexico.
Gun control:
1. Sight alignment
2. Sight picture
3. Hold breath
4. Squeeze trigger
The problem is not my guns... the problem is your sons.
😂👍. You should have heard the comments from my Brit friends when my dad got transferred to ABQ from London in ‘63.
Bus em back to old Mexico. I live in New Mexico. People here don't want the illegals. They've voted on it in the past. It was always roughly 2/3 to 3/4 against sanctuary cities or giving illegals a drivers license. But the leftists in charge done care. They ram it through anyway.
i lived in NM for a number of years, the democrats own the state and do whatever they want or can get away with.

Sad for my home state. I wanted to return to Farmington when I retired, glad I stayed in the Hillbilly South.
48 years ago, our neighbor in Farmington NM shot and killed his whole family, then himself. No one screamed for gun control back then.
A few years back my brother-in Law’s daughter, in Farmington, blew her head off with a sawed off shotgun. She had problems.
Again, no calls for gun control. New Mexico, like Colorado, has finally been Californicated.
I should have asked....IF the AR-15 had never been manufactured would those people still be alive or would the shooter have simply used some other weapon.
Remember, he ditched the AR-15 and pulled out a .22 and a 9 MM pistol and continued shooting. This sounds more like “Suicide by cop”.
The governor of New Mexico, when new in office, attempted to thwart the logging for firewood - she ordered some stop on the use of forest lands (something like that).
Little could she imagine, that her constituents who voted for her, were often pickup truck drivers who collected firewood for the winter - firewood being a very important heating source for many people in New Mexico.
The other thing - a requirement for security in New Mexico - is being able to protect yourself. Because immediately at and beyond the outskirts of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, the rest of New Mexico is still the old wild west.
That, now, becoming a bigger problem, given the liberals’ demanding much greater wilding by illegal aliens - during which chaos, there are advantages taken by the criminal elements.
