Just draw well-thinned out Russian troops over there, soften up in advance of UKR counteroffensive, sow civilian panic in Belgorod (they are fleeing in vehicles jamming the routes out of the city as of two hours ago) and piss off Shoogu, Gerasimov and Putin and make him respond. That border station was just a sitting duck. Very unprotected. One guard plugged the rest fled for their lives.
All equipment we've seen being used by the Russian separatists in Belgorod are available for purchase from military stores or were acquired from defecting Russian soldiers or from captured supply depots.

Depends on the Russian’s reaction: it’s a profound embarrassment if Russia loses even a small town to Ukraine. If this causes the Russians to move troops away from Donetsk to counter any Ukrainian move into Russia the payoff for the Ukrainians may be large.
