Women are at least twice as likely as men to be injured in Army basic training, according to data collected over six years by the service.
Most of those injuries were musculoskeletal -- meaning they affect the bones, muscles, joints and tendons of female recruits. Military.com obtained the injury data as the Army is looking for ways to boost recovery for men and women moving through boot camp.
During 2022, nearly 30% of female recruits were injured on average each month during Army basic training. The average was 23% per month between 2017 and 2022, the data shows. During those years, about 12% of male recruits were injured each month.
The gap between male and female injuries in Army basic training isn't unique to the military.
Female athletes are also typically more prone to injury compared to their male counterparts, with women being more likely to receive bone and knee ligament injuries and stress fractures, according to a 2018 study published in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation medical journal. Part of that is due to women having smaller bones and less muscle mass.

It isn’t really an LOL, but...the way that guy took that female soldier with one hand and made sure she got into the hole first (unceremoniously) made me laugh a little.
No doubt if that had been you or I, it would have been followed by a swift kick to the ass!
Fort Benning, Georgia, will be renamed Fort Moore after Army Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and his wife, Julia Compton Moore
This all started with the ditz congresscritter Pat Schroder!
The end goal has never been, have an effective military & let woman be patriots just like men. The end goal is to have women with flag rank (stars on their shoulders!) in the upper decision making of the military. A little thing like physical reality can’t be allowed to stand in the way. Look at movies and TV you see plenty of 125lb women holding their own or kicking the ass of big lugs. Isn’t being in the military just like industry & government. Just recruit & rapidly promote them into those leadership positions and all will be well.
Females can’t throw grenades, almost half can’t get them out of the personal kill zone (on flat ground on a sunny day) and they are not good at land navigation.
So.
“US Army to Drop Grenade Throwing Requirement
Beginning summer 2019, U.S. Army recruits will no longer be required to demonstrate grenade-throwing abilities to pass training.”
“Other Requirement Changes
This isn’t the only requirement the Army is dropping, however. The Army says its also dropping land navigation as a requirement.”
Yeah I see what you mean now. You and the Navy guy make a good case as to how many of those support position aren’t really suitable for women.
Love it!
Sure. Who needs to actually get where you’re going?
Suck it up, walk it off.
Man that chick couldn’t have landed well…
Lol! Fixed it for me!
I’ve never been in the military so maybe I will be corrected but if I were out somewhere in a unit fighting an enemy, in terms of optimal power to weight ratio I’d want guys between 145 and 190. With maybe 10 or 12 percent fat. Many Marines I see have little fat but a lot of muscle and it looks to me like a hell of a lot of weight to drag around even though it is muscle.
If you had to climb Pon Du Hoc how much would you want to weigh?
Easy fix, just lower the physical standards.
If it was just climbing, we’d want tall & slender. But for carrying heavy objects and being able to prevail in hand-to-hand, then 190-200 in a 6’ or more guy can be fine. OTOH, Audie Murphy was 5’5” and 120-ish in WW2 and he did fine.
Marine experiment finds women get injured more frequently, shoot less accurately than men
...40.5 percent of women participating suffered some form of musculoskeletal injury, while 18.8 percent of men did...
...the average man in the experimental integrated unit weighed 178 pounds with 20 percent body fat, while the average woman weighed 142 pounds with 24 percent body fat...
...male Marines who have not received infantry training were still more accurate using firearms than women who have....

Get that? BAMS get hurt twice as much as other Marines, BAMs are smaller and fatter than other Marines, and Marine REMFS shoot better than infantry-trained BAMS.
The $64 dollar question is, since the defense budget is fixed and finite, which sex do you thing is a better ROI on their paycheck?
Thanks. I met the reporter ( can’t remember his name) in the movie ( many times) about that infamous engagement, “ We were soldiers once” I believe the title was. He died a year or so ago.
My American Legion also has a member who was there. Sad story, his wife died and he hasn’t seen his children for years. Our Post has lost all contact with him- sad.
They shouldn’t have changed Benning’s name, but we lucked out that it was renamed for Moore, we can be proud to use his name when mentioning our time at Benning, Moore is buried there.
