To stop violence: Men, heal thyselves
Seattle Times ^ | May 15, 2023 | Naomi Ishisaka

“Boys will be boys.”

That message, taught at a very young age from kids’ T-shirts to the mouths of adults, takes what is actually nurture and socialization and tries to convince us it’s the natural order.

Are men just naturally more violent? Less able to control their impulses? I would argue no, our culture teaches men to be this way, and all of us pay the price. The culture that teaches that boys can’t help but be violent can be summed up by the term “toxic masculinity.”

We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.

That statement alone is why Teddy Roosevelt deserves his place on Mount Rushmore.

I'm all for "rough" men but they need to be rough thru and thru...

no more drugs, alcohol, gambling, porn, adultery and promiscuity...

men are perfectly capable of being strong males with high character....

I’d like to mention that if this person thinks that only men
do these things in our current societal climate, she doesn’t
get out much.

Except that it was first said by George Orwell, not Roosevelt.

Oh good grief. Has she ever watched little boys play?

Yup.

The article also assumes men are not keeping themselves in check. We assuredly do. We run with 25-50 times the testosterone women do. Female bodybuilders who double their testosterone (so still 12-25 times lower than men) have trouble keeping themselves under control and tell men they have no idea how they control themselves.

The fact is most of the violence is done by a very small percentage of people - men and women - that keep doing it. Gynosociety does not allow us to deal with these people properly.

She needn't worry too much about male violence. Not too many are going to hit on her.

How about women stop being sluts and practicing hypergamy. Have a little self control themselves.

The thing that wrote this garbage feels that her bias is reality. Actual reality demonstrates the obvious fact that males are naturally more physically aggressive than females. It is not something that is “taught”; it is ingrained in our very DNA. To deny that is to deny reality in favor of a ideological idiocy.

Now how we handle, or rather channel our aggressiveness is the question. The institution of organized sports has been a traditional outlet for male aggression. Physical violence can also be channeled into martial sports such as boxing, wrestling, etc. That’s why sports, while laudable in teaching young girls about self discipline, teamwork, the importance of setting goals and working to achieve them, are not as vital to them as they they are to males. And women who care about men and how we relate peacefully with the world around us, would not minimize that difference.

But faith in Christ is most assuredly the real key in molding us male barbarians into kind protectors of females. It acts as a check on our predatory urges.

Ephesians 5:25-33
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, ...

1 Timothy 3:1-7
The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?
