Eighteen months ago Yemi Mobolade was a political newcomer who set out to become Colorado Springs' next mayor and break the status quo. On Tuesday night, he was poised to do just that — and was also on his way to making history as the city's first elected Black mayor.
Unofficial results released by the City Clerk's Office at 9:40 p.m. show Mobolade had about 57.5% of the vote, ahead of his opponent Wayne Williams in the race, who had 42.5%.
Mobolade's decisive victory represents a seismic political surprise in Colorado Springs, long known as a conservative stronghold. Though the city's municipal elections are nonpartisan, Mobalade, who is neither a Republican nor a Democrat, will be the first mayor not affiliated with the Republican party since Colorado Springs started electing mayors 45 years ago. He has promised a more "inclusive, culturally rich city."
"It's a new day in our beloved city. Do you believe that?" Mobolade asked a crowd of about 900 who had gathered to cheer him on at a watch party at the COS City Hub on Tuesday night. "Because I do. ... Colorado Springs will become an inclusive, cultural rich, economically prosperous, safe and vibrant city on a hill that shines brightly."

Mobolade, an immigrant born in Nigeria who first came to the United States in 1996, said the unofficial election results Tuesday night show that Colorado Springs voters are "hungry for a new type of leadership."

"It's clear Colorado Springs is less conservative than it used to be. When I was chairman here (of the El Paso County Republican Party) we had no Democratic state reps. Now we have three," Williams said.

The swamp water is rising boys and girls. Best to hold your nose...
Unaffiliated = bribes for both sides. More taxes, more crime, less services. The graft is in.
Another city bites the dust...
Are there any estimates how long it will take before the city reaches Chicago heights?
Colorado Springs has been an amazing city for a very long time. Great growth, strong white collar jobs, beautiful place. Hopefully it will be completely different in its outcome compared to the other national cities and areas who have chosen diversity over common sense.

Is everything involving an ethnic minority in this nation worthy of being dubbed a “historical moment”?
In other news Yemi Mobolade made history when he became the first black man to have a cup of Sumatra-blend coffee in his Colorado Springs neighborhood.
Yeah, Good luck with that!
This will be interesting to watch.
In my experience, which is not vast, the actual African immigrants I’ve come to know are for the most part very good people and not infected with the pathologies of many native born Americans of African descent.
Maybe this guy will surprise us.
The voters should be so proud. Their first African mayor. Pretty soon, all mayors in this country are going to be Africans.

Just wait until the white women come forward and the federal indictment comes down.
Yup, saw the word “inclusive”.
So, we can rest assured that Colorado Springs is a future Denver (formerly beautiful and wonderful to visit, nohome of turds on the street, turds in the legislature, and an inept governor).
“Yemi Mobolade”
“Barack Hussein Obama”
Guess I’m a bigot but I won’t vote for “Vivek Ramamswamy” or “Nimarata Nikki Randhawa”.
Oh boy! Shitcago coming to Colorado.

Other 0.2%........................
You just don’t want to have to spell them for 4-8 years!.................
First black whatever is getting tiresome.
Colorado Springs has gone downhill every year. It is infested with mexican gangs. Crime around the Ft Carson army base is terrible. The two primary malls became slums. The parks are crime havens. Company after company has bailed from the city.
