Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling on his top financial backers to huddle with him in Miami next week, another signal that the popular two-term conservative governor is moving closer to launching a White House campaign and jumping into an increasingly crowded GOP nomination race.
The meeting will take place May 24-25 and potentially extend another day, a source who received an invitation told Fox News on Monday. The source added that he was told by DeSantis officials to "block off" those dates "on your calendar."
The DeSantis political team confirmed to Fox News that the gathering in Miami is "a pre-briefing for our top supporters."
By law, DeSantis cannot receive or ask for contributions for a presidential campaign unless he has formally declared his candidacy. However, the governor can meet with prospective donors to brief them on his 2024 plans if he does not solicit contributions.
Next week’s meeting with donors appears to be the latest in a series of moves in recent days that indicate the launch of DeSantis' 2024 presidential campaign is nearing. Among them was the move Monday by DeSantis’ political team from the Republican Party of Florida headquarters...

Dan Eberhart, an oil drilling chief executive officer and a prominent Republican donor and bundler who contributed $100,000 and raised half a million dollars for former President Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign but who is now a DeSantis supporter, told Fox News that "the DeSantis march to an announcement gets excruciatingly close with the check in with his donors."

Ooooohhh so THAT’s what he means when he says Never Back Down. He can’t back down from his money. Makes sense 😂🔥— LEAHmemes (@itsreallyleah) May 16, 2023
There sure is a lot of fighting on Free Republic, about this potential Trump vs. DeSantis primary battle for the GOP presidential nomination.
I believe he will NOT run and wait until 2028.
He’s gotta go through with it. He’s been “made” by his donors and they want a return.
I vote for the GOP nominee but no doubt many here that will reelect Biden to make a point as they did with Obama’s two terms.
Yep, there are some here, who say they won’t vote for DeSantis if he is the GOP nominee. He is allegedly too liberal, RINO, deep state, etc compared to Trump.
I like him a lot. I hope he doesn’t run until 2028.
The PAC's global establishment uniparty people want Ron to "Never Back Down" from taking down Trump. They want to take Trump out and they want to pep Ron up by saying it.
Go Ron
You can do it.
Never Back Down.
Take out Trump.
“DeSantis to huddle with donors in Miami, another sign presidential campaign is imminent”
I think an intervention might be best, based on what we’ve discussed in the past here, but it’s his future, not ours...
I’m sure that Karl Rove and the other Bushites will be there. Maybe even the Cheney’s.
I would be surprised if anyone on this forum would vote for Biden, whether they are Republican or Democrat.
But the donors aren’t stupid, either: they can clearly see the writing on the wall and have to know that their donations would be largely wasted for 2024.
Ergo, I suspect even the most ardent DeSantis supporter will not go ‘all in’ during this cycle, but could suggest he run long enough to keep his name out there toward the intention of being a 2028 front-runner.
DeSantis job will be to damage Trump for the general and drain his coffers. DeSantis is a bad apple like all the rest.
Fox News appears to be pro-DeSantis. He’s getting very favorable coverage from them. This does not make me feel more comfortable with DeSantis (who I generally like).
The headlines are hilarious. DeSantis seen spooning with Jeb, a sign bis campaign is rock solid
If DeSantis runs and wins the primary, it would be extremely foolish not to back him. Do any FReepers seriously believe four more years of Biden is better than even a RINO? Bush was a terrible president in my book, but he at least slowed the damage done by the most radical Democrats. Biden, for example, is 100% across the board destructive on every issue facing the nation.
I love how he has to check in with donors. Oh yea, beacon of independence coming through. Hopefully Trump goes up after the announcement
It may be no more is expected of him by the establishment than to bloody Trump up for the general.
Unless everyone already knows Trump is gonna be taken out of the race some other way.
Because DeSantis has GOT to know in a head to head primary matchup he doesn’t have a chance.
