Trump pushes back on DeSantis ‘culture of losing’ comment: ‘Ron is not a winner’

Former President Trump is pushing back on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) remarks calling on the GOP to reject a “culture of losing” to win in 2024, saying “Ron is not a winner.”

In an interview with The Messenger – a news outlet that launched Monday – Trump rejected the notion that DeSantis is trying to portray Trump as “too caught up in the past” as the governor mulls a potential bid for the White House.

“First of all, I’m not at all caught up in the past. And second of all, I’m doing much better against [President] Biden than he is in the polls, and I’m doing much better against him,” Trump said. “I mean, I’m beating [DeSantis] by 40 points in some polls, so he can talk about what he wants. And third of all, I did very well in the midterms.”

“Ron’s not a winner because Ron without me wouldn’t have won,” Trump added. “If I would have left it alone, he would have lost by 30 points or more.”

DeSantis said at an event over the weekend that Republicans would win if they provide a “positive alternative” to President Biden.

“But there’s no substitute for victory,” he said. “We must reject the culture of losing that has infected our party in recent years.”

Trump has repeatedly taken credit for DeSantis’s win in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial race. He said in the new interview that DeSantis was a “dead as a doornail” in race before he endorsed him.

“He was dead, dead as a doornail. And I revived him. … I’m a loyal person,” he said. “If that happened to me, I would never run against the guy that did that. He’s got plenty of years left. And I think if he runs, he’s gonna lose MAGA votes forever. That’s my opinion. And the MAGA votes are almost everything in the Republican Party, far bigger than you think.”

When asked if he would ever endorse DeSantis, who was overwhelmingly reelected in 2022, Trump said, “It’s too early to say. So far, I’m not a fan of the way that he’s running.”

He also said that DeSantis is not doing well in the polls because he has “no personality” and does not have “a lot of political skill.”

So, you really think that Biden got 81 million votes. No wonder you like DeSantis.

I think it's a requirement.

DeSantis supporters are required to suspend disbelief about the 2020 election.

If you believe the 2020 result, you are in the Ron Club.

You are 100% wrong about that. His 2016 strategy, where he insulted and humiliated his GOP opponents in succession before Hillary Clinton was even on his radar screen, was employed to perfection.

I guess I am just unaware of what Desantis losses are?

Maybe you can educate me.

Did I say DeSantis lost? I guess you need to spin to win, at least in your own head.

You mean when the Democrats proposed federalizing elections they had no power to do so ??

You're almost there. Make that a statement instead of a question to get the rest of the way.

In addition, doesn’t each state and the federal government require a legislature to vote for laws before they can be enacted ???

Of course. Civics 101. Now, what does that have to do with anything? The feds still have no say in State run elections. Could the feds usurp those State powers? Sure. If the States allow it. That won't make the usurped powers constitutional.

The question is a statement.

Trump pushed thru a bump stock ban for rifles, was that usurped powers of the Constitution ??

Trump is the king of talking about things he wants to do and never proposing legislation to get things done, voting integrity is just one of many things.

Penny is the newest wrongly persecuted.
Trump put out an early statement that was on point although DeSantis boosters are trying to take issue with it:
Trump: “Well, I think he was in great danger and the other people in the car were in great danger. I haven’t seen the tape. But I think he was in danger. And it sounded like the other people in the car were in danger. And it also looks like this man [who was killed] was arrested over 40 times and had lots of problems. So I haven’t seen the tapes. I won’t make a definitive [statement] but it looks to me like the people in that car were in great danger.”

I’m not sure what your comment is meant to imply. The comment to which you were replying was correct - at both the state and federal level, the legislature votes on the laws, and the executive (president or governor) signs them. No attempt to mix the two, just a clear statement of the process that applies to both.

Go back and read what the other poster was trying to do. Yes, both the feds and States have a process for passing legislation that the respective 'manager' signs or not to make it law or not. There is no argument to that Civics 101 statement. I learned that when I was 6 years old watching Saturday morning cartoons. The mix comes when trying to equate fed.gov powers as the same as State powers concerning elections. I see it here almost daily, 'Trump should have done something about voter fraud while he was President' which is USDA Grade 'A' BS. That concludes my Civics 101 teachings for the day because I have BS to spread around my garden, which is the only legitimate use for BS.

Trump never won an election before 2016 either.

Have you ever listened to her?

She sounds extremely presidential and conservative.

You can’t win if there is constant voter fraud.

I have experiences it myself. I was registered by someone else and the signature was not even close to mine.

This was 20 years ago. That’s when it started.

Have you seen her allegations for Arizona?

She will ‘say anything’ to be declared winner? How about fact. Is it OK if she tells facts?

Tell us what she thinks next, since you are such a mind reader.

Nuance is being ignored. The system worked as it should.

The case was somewhat unique because the issue involves not the Second Amendment but the interpretation of federal statutes. Opponents of the ban argued that bump stocks do not fall under the definition of illegal machine guns in federal law. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says they do, a position now being defended by the Biden administration.
The full appeals court Friday sided with opponents of the ATF rule. They had argued that the trigger itself functions multiple times when a bump stock is used, so therefore bump stock weapons do not qualify as machine guns under federal law. They point to language in the law that defines a machine gun as one that fires multiple times with a “single function of the trigger.”

Most of the majority also agreed that if the law is ambiguous, it’s up to Congress to address the issue under a court doctrine known as “lenity.”

In a dissent, Judge Stephen Higginson disagreed that bump stocks don’t fall under the federal definition of machine guns. And he wrote that the majority’s interpretation of the lenity principle was too broad. “Under the majority’s rule, the defendant wins by default whenever the government fails to prove that a statute unambiguously criminalizes the defendant’s conduct,” Higginson wrote.

The fact of the matter is Trump pushed thru a bump stock ban which is lessening 2a rights.

All the other justifications are just that justifying taking away 2s rights from individuals.

And third of all, I did very well in the midterms.”

Uh, yeah, no...he (and we) did not.

Left the candidates twisting in the wind out to dry. No fundraising despite a huge contact list. So-called conservative publications with nonsensical articles and headlines portraying McConnell's PAC as the entity in charge of funding or not funding campaigns also didn't help, either. Meanwhile, the Democrats raked in loads of cash and decimated the GOP. Florida being one of the exceptions.

You have misunderstood my point about past Governors.
Posters were using poor past governors of Florida to explain Fla being #10 in the posted review.
I was pointing out that other states were also working from past governors effects on performance.
We each get to vote as we believe is best. Lots of America’s enemies won’t vote for Trump which is their right & privilege. Even some well meaning people will make bad decisions based on inconsequentials and pet peeves.

Wrong. Just ignore the facts & post opinions. The process worked. The NRA was for bump stock bans before they were passed. The process made 2nd amendment rights stronger. Debate is healthy in a true democratic republic.

“Why the vicious and personal attacks?”

Because of the vicious personal attacks on Trump and all who support him, from many DeSantis-bots on this site.

So far the courts have said the bump stock bans are illegal and unconstitutional, we’ll see what the supreme court decides.

Seems like that healthy democracy thing has proven you wrong again.
