Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko misses event, fuelling health rumours

Belarus' leader Alexander Lukashenko has missed a major state celebration, further fuelling health speculation.

The autocratic politician, 68, usually speaks publicly at the annual National Flag, Emblem and Anthem Day event but his prime minister read a message on his behalf on Sunday.

Last week, Mr Lukashenko left Moscow soon after Victory Day parade, skipping lunch with President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Lukashenko looked visibly tired, and his right hand was bandaged.

He was last seen in public laying flowers in the capital Minsk during Belarus' own Victory Day celebrations on 9 May - a few hours after returning from the Russian capital.

An opposition Telegram channel reported that Mr Lukashenko visited a presidential medical centre just outside Minsk on Saturday night - but this information has not been independently verified.

Mr Lukashenko's office has so far made no comments on the issue.

Russian overthrow, will leavea appearance of Belorus being a stronger Russian ally, as Russia continues preparation for establishing a land bridge to Kalingrad-Königsberg.

The Russians confirmed that Lukashenka is ill. Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy head of the Russian state duma committee on CIS affairs, said that it is not covid but refused to name the illness. He added that Lukashenka is just sick and simply needs some rest.

I wish these Ruskie politicians would get their stories straight. A day earlier his sudden departure from the Moscow celebration was reported at a FR Search, Russia article that Lukie needed serious back surgery. However he wanted it done in the US, not possible because he is also under sanctions.

If he dies, I wounder what will happen in Belarus. The woman who won the election before Lukie’s dictatorial takeover has been lobbying in US and Europe to restore democracy in Belarus. There has been strong railway labor antagonism to Putin, and there is even a Belarus unit fighting with Ukraine.

I’ll be interested to read the link about his trip to the hospital. Windows and surgery can both be fatal.

There was nothing extra at the beginning of the twitter link, however motre at comments below.

“Lukashenko fell ill - a serious failure occurred in his body

According to the media, doctors from Moscow flew to Lukashenka to Minsk. Judging by the “set of doctors”, the dictator had some failure.

“It caused very serious diseases of the endocrine system and cardiac diseases. It is not known what caused the failure,” the source said.”

Other comments below this one suggest poison tea, murderous Putin doctors, and related risks.

In a different vein others suggested a rapid citizen takeover of the Army and Government, and it was reported Zelenskyy recently met with the woman who probably won the Belarus election against the dictator.
