The clock is about to begin ticking down on Ron DeSantis’ presidential announcement.

On Monday, the Florida governor’s political operation is set to move into its new base of operations, which will trigger disclosure requirements with federal officials.

The DeSantis political operation is currently housed in downtown Tallahassee, but staffers are set to make a short move to a new downtown location that will serve as a more official campaign home, according to a source familiar with the campaign’s plans, as well as another person knowledgeable about the move.

That move will require the not-yet-filed campaign to spend more than $5,000 and, under Federal Election Commission guidelines, when someone running for federal office spends more than $5,000, they are required to register, file financial reports and designate a principal campaign committee.

Functionally, the office move will require DeSantis to file paperwork with federal election officials within 15 days, thus acknowledging publicly for the first time that he is running for president.

I guess he figures he can win the nomination, even with Trump 40 points ahead, and then, I guess he figures that he can win somehow get those Trump voters to support him in November?

I guess...but I cannot figure out his strategy.

One past presidential candidate said:
“I have been asked by you reporters again and again if I’m running. The answer I gave is no and it’s still no. So please stop asking. It’s driving my campaign staff crazy.”

I am and have been unaffiliated with any party for a long time, not GOP dope. I also am not too worried about the republican base not liking me either.
That said, I am DeSantis first, Trump 2nd. I’ll take Trump if it is him, and don’t have a problem with that at all, prefer DeSantis.
Now, see? That isn’t hard! I can prefer 1 person over another without having to hate, malign, and despise the others.
I also really hope that DeSantis waits until 2028.

I’d really love to see how a guy like DeSantis would govern in a state where most of the legislators — from BOTH parties — were working tirelessly to undermine him. That’s what Trump was up against even before he was in office.

That's where leaders need to emerge. Trump couldn't lead. A true leader holds his sword into the air and says, "Follow me!" and people do.

Not everyone is a leader.

Some people are great managers. They are great executives. They are great thinkers. But they cannot lead.

Trump, of course, was starting at a deficit. From Day One, he was loathed by both parties who never wanted him to be president in the first place. It was a very challenging position to be in, beyond the capabilities of most men to overcome. But it was what it was and he just couldn't do it.

Maybe next time.

If DeSantis tries to take out Trump in 2024, MAGA will not support him in 2028

If the Uniparty has chosen him to win, the ballots will come rolling in. Doesn't matter that he's an "R".

Jeb Bush looked like a conservative in Florida. You don't have deal with not only Democrats in Florida but the establishments of both parties trying to undermine you like Trump had to deal with. Never mind the phony scandals or the smears in the media that DeSantis has only got a small dose of.

And, why did Trump face all that? Because he was the first candidate since Reagan that wanted to make real changes and clean up the corruption in DC. He took on the Holy Grails of the swamp -- neocon foreign policy and illegal immigration.

Neocon foreign policy is used to enrich our political class, their financial backers and the defense industry. We literally have spent decades setting off civil wars and destabilizing countries in order to make all involved $$$.

As far as accomplishments go, Trump 1) gave the country the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years without the 40-year high in inflation 2) made us energy independent and gave us $2 a gallon gasoline 3) Put judges on SCOTUS that overturned Roe 4) Got 700 miles of the wall built despite every effort from Democrats and establishment Republicans to stop it 5) Gave us 5) Reduce border crossing to record lows.

If that record isn't good enough for you, go freep yourself. You're a neocon Republican of the Bush variety so I don't consider you a conservative of any kind.

But Trump will not live forever. We need a solid back bench. And with this, I don’t see anything wrong with DeSantis tossing his hat into the ring in 2024 and garnering the experience of running a primary campaign. And if he holds Trump’s feet to the fire, it will be better for both of them.

***********************
The backbench is a young and talented Governor from the great state of Florida.

The alliance between Tallahassee & Mar-a-Lago needs to happen before the end of the year.

We need our strongest champions going into the “War for 2024.”

If desantis was serious about becoming President, he would support the MAGA movement, receive Trump’s endorsement and act as a third term for Trump ...

No. Trump doesn't deserve a coronation. And, honestly, it would be a disservice to him if he was granted one.

What do fighters do before the big match? They train. They spar.

Trump and Cruz duked it out mercilessly during the 2016 primaries. At several given points, either man could've emerged victorious. But Trump did, and the sparring he did with Cruz won him the votes he needed to eventually beat Hillary. In turn, the defeated Ted Cruz became one of President Trump's strongest allies in Washington.

What harm comes if DeSantis gives him a good fight, forcing Trump to sell his case to the American people? Make the case, soberly and authoritatively, that's he's the better choice?

Keep in mind, Trump doesn't need to win over the MAGA faithful. He already has. He needs to win back Joe Sportsball and Jane Soccermom. People who don't post on Free Republic.

Yes, Trump will be the likely GOP nominee. But it won't hurt him to be limber and well-trained before the big game.

And it won't hurt DeSantis to get his toes wet.

Worst case is Trump roughs him up so badly, there won’t be a 2028 Run
for Ron. Name 1 GOP 2016 Presidential Candidate that ran against Trump
in 2016 that will EVER be President.
Jeb Bush? Never.
Lying Ted Cruz? Never.
Why. Because Trump roughed them both up badly.
If I were the Meatball, I’d think long and hard about jumping in 2024.
His choice. His Future.

See my posts above.

If you think Trump should waltz into a coronation, fat and lazy, prepare to see him get walloped in 2024.

He needs to train and spar.

See my above post.
Cancun Ted and Yeb thought they could take on Trump too.
Trump finished off Jeb’s political career.
And Lying Ted barely won re-election to the Senate…IN TEXAS.
Cruz may continue to be a Senator, but he will never be President.
Ron takes that risk as well if he jumps in 2024.
He has done a great job as FLA’s Governor.
But he has a Majority GOP State House and Senate to support his policies.
Much different and harder on a National Level. Even if the GOP controls
both the House and Senate.
Now is not his time
