With Florida governor Ron DeSantis expected to launch his presidential campaign in the coming weeks, there has been much speculation regarding whether or not he will be able to draw support away from the Republican frontrunner, Donald Trump, and emerge as a fresh new alternative for the party.
Members of DeSantis' team have argued that, despite continously trailing the former president in the polls, the governor's base of support will expand as soon as he officially declares that he's running.
According to Politico, DeSantis' team is confident that their guy has what it takes to become the nominee, with gubernatorial campaign manager Generra Peck suggesting that "everyone knows the majority of the Republican Party wants to move on."
DeSantis' spokesperson David Abrams highlighted the fact that Trump took to attacking the governor personally and professionally long before any talk of a presidential run was openly discussed. He suggested that the former president "knows that his greatest threat is Ron DeSantis."
Of course, DeSantis made all the moves of a man seeking to become president save for actually announcing.

DeSantis "has clearly made the calculation he needs to be a good alternative for Trump diehard voters out there."

absolutely positively NO!
Trump 117%
Unhinge? Best I can tell, the game they play is to only react to comments that are opinion without substance. What I mean by that, I’ve read all of the comments (as usual :) including yours. Most had substance mixed with opinion including yours. These carnival barkers ignore substance and jump on the opinion.
Early on I made the mistake of responding to them with several key points followed by my opinion. They ignored everything but the opinion and jumped on it. So I finally wised up and only asked one or two questions, no opinion…….crickets. And that’s why they don’t belong here. I can get that nonsense on any other platform.
By the way, you made some very good points. That moron thought he could roll you because you rarely jump on the Trump/DeSantis nonsense posted here several times a day.
As for DeSantis, my opinion: They say DeSantis can win the general but he can’t (won’t) win the primary. Why run? Who benefits? That scenario paints an opportunist who cares nothing about MAGA voters. Unless and until Congress becomes MAGA, nothing will change…..that is what we should be ‘barking’ about :)
They might if Trump left the race at the same time.
Is that going to happen? No.
Nope, don’t think so.
TRUMP EARNED MY VOTE the first time and I am sure he will earn in 2024!
Desantis is a self made man.
Joe Biden is a self-made man. So is Bill Clinton, Obama, Mitch McConnell, Dick Durbin, John Cornyn, Chuck Schumer...well you get the idea.
They all rose up through the ranks and are self-made men - by your definition of the term.
The people whispering in DeSantis’s ear don’t care about his career. They’re using him for their own purpose. DeSantis is either too stupid to see that, or his ego has clouded his judgement.
I had hopes for DeSantis in 2028 - looks like the politician’s hubristic lust for power has infected him...
True. But it didn’t occur in a vacuum. The Establishment consultants and power brokers have spent years cultivating him. This is how they’ve managed to control things in the background all these years. THEY decide who the next “latest and greatest” rising star is going to be. They stroke his ego and run interference for him. And the result is a polished, scripted, and totally controlled politician.
The image of a strong independent leader is an illusion that they work hard to create. And they’re good at it, so it’s up to a savvy and informed electorate to not be fooled by it, otherwise we’ll continue to be manipulated and we’ll continue to be disappointed.
DeSantis’s successes have all been orchestrated and allowed to occur by his Establishment string pullers. If the GOP Establishment wants you to fail, you’ll fail 90% of the time. If they want you to succeed, they’ll invest the time, money and effort into creating an image for you that, on the surface, looks impressive, but is not what it appears to be. I’ve seen it too often to be fooled by it anymore.
Good for Fla, too green for anything else.
