Britain’s fertility regulator has confirmed the births of the U.K.'s first babies created using an experimental technique combining DNA from three people
Britain's fertility regulator on Wednesday confirmed the births of the U.K.'s first babies created using an experimental technique combining DNA from three people, an effort to prevent the children from inheriting rare genetic diseases.
The Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority said fewer than five babies have been born this way in the U.K. but did not provide further details to protect the families' identities. The news was first reported by the Guardian newspaper.
In 2015, the U.K. became the first country to adopt legislation regulating methods to help prevent women with faulty mitochondria — the energy source in a cell — from passing defects on to their babies. The world's first baby born using the technique was reported in the U.S. in 2016.

What could possibly go wrong.
“ 1st Babies Monsters Born in Britain Using DNA From 3 People ”

Actually, this is to AVOID the child from having the genetic defect. IMHO there is nothing wrong with parents wanting to avoid afflictions to their children.
wow...this is going to end badly...
This sounds vaguely familiar; like experiments Joseph Mengele was working on before and after he fled to South America.
The question is: what else will this technology be used for? I have read that Chinese scientists are experimenting with inserting human genes into chimps, and vise-versa.
the potential horrors are endless.
Do you think they know every ramification from combining DNA from 3 people to make a baby?
This is how Khan Noonien Singh got started.
Zebra kids? Leopard-spot kids? Among other defects...
As in the days of Noah. This will not end well.
“ Do you think they know every ramification from combining DNA from 3 people to make a baby?”

The nuclear DNA of the baby is made up SOLELY of contributions from the nuclear DNA of THE TWO PARENTS with NOTHING FROM THE EGG DONOR. The donated egg has had its NUCLEAR DNA completely removed. The egg donor makes ABSOLUTELY NO CONTRIBUTION to the baby’s nuclear DNA.

“ Many critics oppose the artificial reproduction techniques, arguing there are other ways for people to avoid passing on diseases to their children, such as egg donation…”
This does use egg donation.
“… or screening tests, and that the experimental methods have not yet been proven safe.”
In other words aborting child after genetic screen.
“ The genetic defects can result in diseases such as muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, heart problems and intellectual disabilities. About one in 200 children in Britain is born with a mitochondrial disorder. To date, 32 patients have been authorized to receive such treatment.”
1 in 200 seems very high.
Yep, we seem to think we’re the God.
Reachers doing what they could, without stopping to think if they should.
This seems like an effort to keep fatal disease from being dominant in the child. If they use it for this manner then it’s a miracle.
God made us intelligent for a reason.

Really?
Then why does the article say DNA from 3 people
combining DNA from three people
= = =
So we get XXX, XXY, XYY, YYY, YXX, YYX, etc.
That gender stuff really is a ‘spectrum’.
Yeah, so we wouldn't be animals...
