Just don’t make it possible to charge a phone or device on the plane. That’ll solve almost all of the issues.

Crazy usb and other connections on a plane only ask for trouble.

Does every single news story begin with an anecdote?

george76 :" .."Within the cell, there's a process called 'thermal runaway' that occurs."..

That sounds thrilling !
No wonder municipal fireman have to go through specialized training to deal with lithium-ion fires

Ensure your tray table is locked, your seat belt is fastened and your seat is in an upright position or I swear to Lord Sauron I will let the Urik-hai eat your flesh!

If you want to incite fear among the general populace, use a personal story to make people feel like it could happen to them, even though the actual odds are extremely low.

That’s the media for you. People are swayed by the emotional impact and don’t think it through. It’s a propaganda tool.

Have driven over 1 million miles in my ICE vehicles.

The 2 sitting in the driveway have a combined mileage of 569,000 +++.. THE ONLY NEW CAR I EVER OWNED-—I put 444,000 + on it & sold it to a restorer-—the engine ran fine.

NEVER HAVE HAD A FIRE IN ANY OF THE VARIOUS VEHICLES I have owned.

The manufacturers have sealed most cell phones and laptop makers are doing the same. Making it difficult to replace them so they age and age then WOOOOSH!

I miss the way people used to dress up to travel on airlines, but I certainly don’t miss the stinky yellow second-hand smoke!

When one of these batteries lights off in the checked baggage section it’s going to cause a crash. Like that jet that crashed in the shallow Florida lake.

So just imagine if the entire propulsion system ran on lithium batteries.

I am not without humor.
I miss a lot about the good old days as well.
Didn’t a lot of litigation happen about safe working conditions and flight attendants contracting emphysema and lung cancer from prolonged exposure to second hand smoke in confined quarters of airplanes in flight?
I don’t know if the cases grew legs or not.

The team showed CBS News how the batteries, as designed, supply their own oxygen when they burn, and how the characteristics of the batteries can add to the volatility of the devices. In in one demonstration, the burning lithium-ion battery supplied its own fuel to the flames as the cell burns out of control — underwater!

What''s the 'home solution'? You're computer battery or car battery start to burn...

Isn’t that analogous to a gun that killed someone?

Weren’t those government “studies” exposed as deeply flawed?
