Scott Winkler, who lives in the area, has been a loyal customer of the Rite Aid store for three years. He recently found out the pharmacy was closing, leaving him and other residents in the neighborhood without easy access to essential medications.
"Somebody has to stand up for what's right, and that is a pharmacy that is an intricate part of this area," Winkler said. "Now it's gone, and the only thing we have left is Family Dollar — and hopefully they won't close."
With the pharmacy closing, Winkler will no longer be able to walk over to get his medications. Instead, he will have to take two buses and go to a nearby Walmart to fill his prescriptions.
Winkler is particularly concerned about the impact on the elderly residents in the community who may have difficulty traveling to get their medication.
Mayor Malik Evans expressed his disappointment with Rite Aid's decision to close the pharmacy. He said that the city had been working to keep such stores open and was caught off guard by the announcement.
"It's still shameful that in this day and age we still have stores that have been supported by the city of Rochester for hundreds of years, but they have no problem turning their back on our city," Evans said.

when a business closes because of rampant crime, it’s always the business’ fault and not the application of laws against the criminals.
It’s those darn digital cameras to blame [and fuel injection].
The concepts of cause and effect is just too difficult for some people.
Drug deserts. Democrats just love the desert.
they can cry all they want, but they allowed this to happen....
all would have taken is for some of them to stop the thieves or at least get their description and car license plates....

walmart has mail order deliveries.
It’s racist to demand law and order. Profits are also racist.
our local rite-aid closed, too...and it’s not in a crappy neighborhood. i think the store is in trouble. we have 3 cvs close by..and target...and wegman...and walmart. that area is store poor.
My family has history in Rochester. German immigrants 1848-1868, Nagels, Ihrigs, Helmstaeters, Franks, from Wurttemberg and the Palatinate, worked as butchers, tradesmen and Lutheran clergy, wound up with a lot of property which has of course become worthless.
My Dad’s Aunt lived there in a big old house, died there in 2008 age 97.
Thank God she didn’t live to see what her city became.
If private business decides to fill an open gap, it will do so. Likewise they will leave when they can’t do well in an area.
These people don’t have a right to anything from a private business. They don’t make decisions because Fred over there is upset.
“Somebody has to stand up for what’s right...”
OK, let it start with you. Recruit a bunch of neighbors to take shifts in the store watching for and reporting shoplifters. Help the business have a reason to stay.

Idiot black mayor: “Where my peeps gone do dey shoplifting now mang?”
#NewYorkStateofAnarchy…
Eventually, the federal government will attempt to force stores into black areas by claiming that it is a civil rights issue.
Lemme guess . . .
Let the FEDS find out first hand what is happening, then.
