Austin Goss, who has been fired from his position at Dakota News Now, reportedly used software to make prank calls to former South Dakota GOP chairman Dan Lederman appear as though they came from Gov. Kristi Noem's personal cellphone number.
Goss could face up to a year in jail and $2,000 in fines for a misdemeanor charge of making threatening, harassing, or misleading contacts.
The pre-recorded call Lederman received used the voice of a mafia member accusing him of stealing boxes of vaccines, using lines like "You telling me you didn't tell Vito that you were gonna try to move the three boxes of that AstraZeneca outside this family?"

Phone hacking is the easy part, knowing a prominent person’s private phone number & using it in this matter is criminal.
Personally I think he got it from another reporter in the newsroom by saying he needed to call the governor for a story and that’s how he got it by hacking a friend

Imagine how I felt when I saw my own number with caller ID. True story.

Looking at the picture makes me wonder if any of his bio is real.
Threatening and harassing are crimes, but misleading?

He’s known Noem for at least two years.
Noem posted a photo of Austin Goss on her FB page two years ago.

At the level this reporter was at, it’s not a stretch to think he had the governor’s cell phone number.
I remember back then it was very common to find quite a bit of porn on government employee’s computers.
ANYbody who makes a phone call and causes it to display a number which belongs to someone else should be publicly hanged. That would cut down on the junk calls I get that want me to think they come from nearby.
yep, it was just dumb prank and sadly Noem can’t take a joke. Unfortunately, she decided to ruin this young man’s life over this.
