DeSantis presidential countdown begins as Florida lawmakers put finishing touches on his contentious agenda

Next week, DeSantis will resume his political travel in the next week with visits to Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa.

Speculation about an official kickoff date has been rampant, covering much of the calendar between now and July-4 with potential locations ranging from his childhood hometown of Dunedin, Florida, to somewhere along the Rust Belt where his parents are from.

The circle has expanded out of necessity as DeSantis builds out a nationwide campaign. Never Back Down, a super PAC expected to play an outsized role boosting DeSantis, has beefed up its staff and is already raising money and advertising on his behalf in the early primary states: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. The Florida state GOP has also added staff who are expected to eventually shift to a DeSantis campaign.

But with the growth has also come more leaks about his operation. For DeSantis, who prizes confidentiality and has weaponized the element of surprise to keep political foes on their toes, information leaking from inside his orbit undermines his assertions that here is “no drama in our administration” and “no palace intrigue” – a clear contrast with Trump’s reality television White House.

There is some sniping,” the fundraiser said....He’s got $100 million. But he’s got to execute better.”

[cut]

Never Back Down spokeswoman Erin Perrine disputed there’s any tension because DeSantis isn’t a candidate “so this palace intrigue drama is way out of place.”

“Never Back Down continues to be a grassroots movement focused on getting Governor Ron DeSantis in the race to beat Joe Biden and become president,” she said. “The Governor has a great team in Florida that landed him a historic re-election victory, and we are hugely supportive of all the work they continue to do to help build momentum for DeSantis.”

You have to enter the race and back up to take the position of not backing down.

Well, for all these months, there’s been so much fighting on Free Republic about Trump versus DeSantis.

We will soon find out if DeSantis is really going to be a candidate.

Some of the loudest voices on Free Republic are critical of both Trump and DeSantis, for various reasons.

Some supporters of one candidate, say they will never vote for the other one, if the other ends up being the GOP nominee.

Stay tuned.

DeSantis has no chance if Trump can run commercials with people saying their homeowners insurance premiums are astronomical amounts.

Is this your home? Yes.

What was your lowest homeowners insurance quote?

...

That much?

Yes! Up 200% since DeSantis became governor!

do state governors, or state insurance regulators, have control over insurance rates?

Serious question, and I do not know the answer to that. But the question is, with homeowners rates having risen so much in Florida , what realistically could the government of Florida do about this? Is that really something that you can blame DeSantis for?

DeSantis is essentially handing Floridians over to Tedros and the WHO.

“Some of the loudest voices on Free Republic are critical of both Trump and DeSantis, for various reasons.

Trump:
failure to “bury” Biden electorally in November 2020,
many “bad apples” appointed to high office
too willing to waste time going after ‘crat ‘cockroaches’
too willing to spend federal money to buy votes
eviction ban that has hurt landlords and honest tenants

DeSantis:
too long and too much government employment
has RINOs on his side
seen as too aloof
failed to effectively deal with the biggest problems facing Florida (residential property insurance, traffic, homelessness)

"DeSantis is essentially handing Floridians over to Tedros and the WHO."

What on Earth are you talking about?

I wondered the same. Is this unique to Florida ? My auto insurance has risen astronomically just in the last several months for whatever reason, not including increased state regulation or state inflation or accidents in the state, etc.

Maybe the orange divinity will stop all hurricanes? Or is he going to promise to heavily subsidize Florida homeowner’s insurance? Nah, he’ll just spew Dimocrat talking points out of desperation.

He abdicated his office to the Fear Fuhrer Fauci and promoted “flatten the curve” lockdowns that precipitated much of this unfolding disaster in America and now he will do/say anything to get it back. Now that would make a dandy campaign ad for someone.

Lien-based premium reductions are possible.

With a 90% lien premium reduction, the insurer would pay say $200,000 on a claim as rebuilding get done and along the way place $180,000 worth of liens on the property.

So instead of paying $10,000, the insurance would cost $1,000.

The mortgage company would be satisfied because there is a 100% chance the property will get rebuilt.

Most homeowners have lots of equity, so the lien would be financially sound.

With less demand for reinsurance, reinsurance pricing would go down significantly.

Interstate licensing recognition is possible.

A licensed roofer from another state might be allowed to temporarily exchange his out-of-state license for a Florida license.

With more roofers bidding for work, the cost of a replacement roof would go down.

As a Florida resident, I was very glad to have DeSantis as Gov. BUT in no way/shape/or form do I want to see him as President of this United States.
