Trump tops DeSantis by 46 points in new poll

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has slipped even further in the latest poll of the potential Republican primary field, with former President Trump maintaining his strong lead over the rest of the pack of candidates.

DeSantis, who has yet to officially launch a campaign, garnered 16 percent support from Republican primary voters in the new survey by Emerson College, a 9-point slip from February.

Trump’s support in the poll, 62 percent, jumped from two months ago, when he had 55 percent support.

Trump and DeSantis — who have garnered the most traction in polling — were trailed by former Vice President Mike Pence, who has 7 percent support. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson all garnered 3 percent or less in the poll.

The bump for Trump and slide from DeSantis comes after the former president was arrested and charged with 34 felonies last month for allegedly falsifying business records, making him the first sitting or former president to face criminal charges.

DeSantis, who has visited primary states and kicked off a foreign tour in recent weeks, has faced criticism from his supporters for waiting so long to officially jump into the race.

Trump and his allies have framed the charges against him as a political witch hunt, with his polling in the GOP primary jumping in the immediate aftermath. He has also confronted DeSantis head-on, attacking his record in Florida and his past policy positions on Social Security and Medicare.

DeSantis has been more coy when confronting the former president, criticizing his leadership style but largely steering clear of clashes with Trump.

The poll from Emerson College included 445 GOP primary voters between April 24 and April 25, with a margin of error of 4.6 percent.

Too high.

RFK Jr. is running closer to Biden than DeSantis is to Trump. (albeit only a few points).

At this point, I suspect that all DeSantis hears from his handlers is “Don’t worry, we’ll get him in jail, and then what choice do they have?”

He might want to open his eyes to others, before jettisoning what could have been a great career in politics.

No body ever has a 46 point lead in politics-I suspect very few people answer polls nowadays.

The only thing that matters is:
Trump v. Biden and
DeSantis v. Biden.

So, why is Ronnie running despite sinking in the polls for the last several months? It’s not rational decision unless one is being promised big bucks by the Republican establishment and their donors.

“Getting into losing fights with Mickey Mouse.”

Disney lost it’s sweet deal, the slimy trick used by the previous board didn’t work and their lawsuit in Federal Court is being matched by one in Florida State Court.

Not quite “losing”.

I feel like Trump wins the Rep nomination, but DeSantis would beat Biden in the general election. On the age or “someone new” or “someone stable” factor alone. Trump probably not, most normies out there can’t listen to Trump talk without groaning

just my gut feeling etc

So ‘conservatives’ are now so offended by DeSantis daring to be seen as a potential threat to Trump they are on the Disney Groomer side now?

If we’re being honest whether Disney is allowed to win the culture war in their attempt to brainwash a new generation of children will be much more consequential than whatever Trump would be able to do even if by a miracle he is reelected.

I’m agnostic as to whether it is DeSantis or Trump, and I see advantages and disadvantages to both.

Polls this early, even before DeSantis officially announces, are meaningless.

What IS important is the Republican drive to get our voters (where legal) signed up for voting by mail and to harvest (legally of course) as many of those ballots from people who might not show up in person on election day as possible.

I encourage every FReeper that CAN sign up for mail in voting to DO SO, and to encourage as many other Republican voters as possible.

Especially those who aren’t 100% locked in to voting on election day.

These sort of threads show why conservatives are such perpetual losers. We should taking the battle to the libtards. Instead half the posts here are bashing DeSantis. While FR posts the 300 billionth poll about Desantis vs Trump the libtards in the boardroom and halls of power busy consolidating their control over another industry and influencing the minds of millions of children. Conservatives are operating so far out of their league its no longer funny.

The forest is the swamp/new world order vs. Trump/us.

The trees are to keep us bickering amongst ourselves.

The country and world are going to be in a real pickle by November 2024. We ain’t seen nothing yet.

Trump is the only viable answer to the probable situation.

The big picture people on the other side see it, know it and are scared to death of Trump’s staying power, but more importantly his potential to bring them down.

We better all start thinking a lot bigger because that’s what it’s going to take to turn things around.

under Trump, we had peace, prosperity, respect/fear from our enemies and allies, energy independence, the greatest tax cut in U.S. history, transformation of the lower Federal Courts, transformation of the U.S. Supreme Court, tariffs to stop the flow of cheap foreign commodities bankrupting our industrial base, full employment, strong military, reduced flow of illegal aliens, reduced taxes, strong banks, strong and vibrant small businesses, negligible inflation, zero shortages, really the best times our country has seen in many decades ... there’s no other Republican that can Make America Great Again except for Donald Trump ... period ...

if trump can’t beat a weak old demented puppet like biden whose fascist administration has done its insane best to destroy our Republic, then no one can, and that would be proof positive that our country has reached an inflection point at which it can never recover from the fascist feudal overlords that have been allowed to worm their way into, and destroy, every institution of our Republic ... trump is the only one who has any chance at all to prevent this inflection point from occurring in 2024 ... period ...
