CLEVELAND, Texas -- The manhunt for an alleged gunman continues after being accused of shooting five of his neighbors to death, including an 8-year-old, inside a home in Texas Saturday.

Francisco Oropeza, 38, has been on the run since being accused of retaliating after his neighbors asked him to stop firing rounds in his yard because they were trying to sleep, authorities said Saturday.

Authorities said they have previously been to the suspect's home, according to Capers.

"Deputies have come over and spoke with him about him shooting his gun in the yard," he said.

Authorities describe Oropeza as a Hispanic man who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black shirt, and work boots. Investigators said he has a goatee and short black hair.

A judge has issued an arrest warrant for Oropeza and assigned a $5 million bond. Authorities believe Oropeza left by walking or on a bicycle and is currently within a two-mile radius of the scene.

I live in a rural area, so not sure about a city-out here, shooting on less than 10 acres will get you a warning the 1st time-after that, you are liable to get jail and a fine-if there is a reason for shooting-threat on your property like coyotes after livestock, venomous snake, human threat, etc-then nothing happens...

“If the police had been in contact with him previously, why didn’t they take away his fire arms then?”

“It’s a normal thing people do around here, especially on Fridays after work,” Arevalo said. “They get home and start drinking in their backyards and shooting out there.”

IF police can check the immigration status of people and have them detained for ICE, this could have been prevented.

Again, If.

I don’t know if they can.

Here in IL, it’s jail time for murder. Period. Even if the guy was shooting into your house and hit your kid, if he’s not on your property and despite no legal duty to retreat, you’re screwed - possibly even with a CCW card.

If someone kills a person on your property while shooting carelessly, they are probably going to be arrested for manslaughter-if they are lucky and only injure someone, then then criminal negligence or some such-but in either case, they are looking at a felony conviction and probably going to jail for awhile. The reason for the 10 acre thing is because just about everyone out here has livestock of some type behind their fences, even if it is just chickens, and livestock is raised for income.

A neighbor did the 1st drone shooting out here last year when another neighbor’s kid got a drone as a gift and was flying it over other people’s fences onto their property-he was having fun using it to chase a neighbor’s goats around their pasture into the woods-neighbor warned the kid to keep the drone off the property-when it came back, he took it out of the air with a 12 gauge-the kids’s parents called the sheriff, but were told the kid was trespassing via his drone, bothering livestock-no fault of the goat owner...

Is that in rural areas? That sounds dangerous-less than 200 yards-I’ve never fired at anything over 125-130 yd, but my .270 will supposedly take out a deer at 200 yards-that is person-sized...

it’s not dangerous if you know what’s behind your target...

"Deputies have come over and spoke with him about him shooting his gun in the yard,"

He is an illegal alien who has been deported twice before. Why didn't they confiscate his illegal firearm, arrest him and deport him again?

I know, I know. That's a silly question. He's likely a Cartel enforcer and it's part of the "deal".

One of my farmer friends has a bunch of Mexican gang members in his un-incorporated neighborhood who have been shooting with a bump-stock at night. He farms land over a large area and doesn’t live on the farmland he owns or leases. Our deputy paid them a visit the other day and they have stopped for now.
The deputy, Steve, is a take-no-prisoners kind of guy.

In my un incorporated neighborhood I can shoot as long as I don’t shoot at my neighbors. I have shot rattlesnakes, water moccasins, skunks, etc. I have talked to my deputy and he has no problem. Castle Doctrine applies to dangerous critters. My neighbor called when there was a skunk out in the middle of the day wanting it shot, often daylite skunks are rabid.
Someone spotted an 18’ python on his seawall across the lake and was shooting at it and the deputy talked to him. He missed because it was already in the water by the time he got his gun. Neighbor down the road had a 12” red tailed boa under her house, had a snake collector catch it.

I live in an unincorporated rural area also-it appears each county makes their own rules about shooting-dangerous critters are okay to shoot in any rural areas-coyotes and feral hogs in particular because of livestock-apparently that now applies to trespassing drones bothering goats, too...

I assume the boas, pythons etc are turned-loose pets-it is obviously warmer where you are-I don’t think those tropical snakes would not last past the 1st hard freeze here-Florida really has a plague of introduced tropical species snakes now, no thanks to the exotic pet trade and people that get tired of those pets...

Not sure if it’s true, but I heard it was around 11:00 at night too. Guy must have been really fun as a neighbor.

Yes, and drunk as a skunk while shooting an AR in the front and or back yard. Where do you suppose was his backdrop for the rounds and richochets or did he even care? The jerk gets pissed off when the neighbor asks him to tone down the noise so his young child can get some sleep. Talk about a crazy third world, this is it.
