Fox News is miscalculating in its "emotional" firing of Tucker Carlson, severing ties with an irreplaceable force in new-age populist conservativism, according to Victor Davis Hanson, a fellow at the Hoover Institute.
Not only is the network disenchanting its audience, it gave the leftist cancel culture activists a victory, and created a 3.5-million viewer vacuum that other conservative networks like Newsmax are going to fill, Hanson told The Telegraph's "Off the Script" podcast this weekend.
"The Murdochs are not quite understanding that when you take away somebody who had a greater potential elsewhere and was a precious asset that anchored your whole evening lineup and you fired him in a fit of pique, or anger without thinking it through, you've got to be very careful, because you're not going to be able to replace a guy like that," Hanson said, warning the modern media is "fragmented" and allows many big names like Joe Rogan, Bill O'Reilly, and Megyn Kelly make their own way without corporate media.

Hanson is all that, however I don’t believe Fox fired Tucker in a fit of pique, or anger without thinking it through.
The deep state put the screws to Fox. Him or your network style.
fox has been part of my past history for a very long time
FOX and the insecure ‘daddy and daddy’s boys’ suck...
Murdoch is the epitome of the modern spoiled brat.
The era of the “narrative makers” is over. “Truth seekers” are the new growth industry for the media. The dinosaurs can’t get it.
I heard Tucker wasn’t actually fired but “neutralized” while still being paid by fox.......is that not accurate?
Although my enthusiasm for ‘We report, you decide’ took significant blows during the Obama years and in the aftermath of the 2020 election, they were still my cable network of choice for news and the political opinions of a handful of hosts, among whom Tucker obviously ascended to the top.
This ‘separation’ is a deliberate poke in my eye, and the other one ain’t tuning in for the other shows that my wife and I watched and recorded on the DVR nightly.
Congratulations Fox, you seem to be doing a little cultural appropriation by falling on your sword. I thought that was supposed to be an act of valor, though.
Keep it up until you’ve pissed off every last one of us, then die.
During Rush Limbaugh's last three years, I would turn the radio off when Hannity came on after Rush signed off, and I haven't listened to him since.
He may not be able to go to another job contractually however he can run for office and have a terrific platform for the next two years
You very well may be right, however I wouldn’t expect Hanson to speculate on that.
I love VDH, but I have news for him. They don’t want voices like Tucker or any other “truth teller”. They want to sucker conservatives all the while being the “controlled opposition”. Other than a few youtube excerpts I swore off cable TV and Faux news in 2012. Now even the snippets are off limits in this house.
I wonder if we’ll ever know the truth.....
Many here are celebrating the demise of FNC, but no one is celebrating more than the woke mob and Marxist Left. Say what you will about FNC, the other Conservative news outlets don’t have nearly the clout that FNC has. It has been a target for “progressives” from the start, and now they are winning a great victory. Be careful what you wish for.
Fox is about to find out just how important he was. The collateral damage when a bomb explodes is unknown immediately, but becomes known over time as the true level of destruction is manifested. Fox’s evening lineup, ratings, and revenue will all experience the damage. Murdock should detach his boy’s from Fox news all together as the price of admission for his daughter-in-laws to the “best” parties will prove to be too high.
Hannity’s been on death watch for awhile. He’s so far out of touch he needs audience feedback to help him find his way.
Agree.
Fox may have trouble replacing Tucker but I heard CNN already installed a clothes store mannequin to be the new Don Lemon.
“An improvement” said the critics.
It was the FBI files on Murdoch.....
