Ukraine remains in control of a key supply route into Bakhmut, a military spokesperson said on Saturday, as the head of Russia's mercenary Wagner Group threatened to withdraw some of his troops from the eastern city if Moscow did not send more ammunition.
Russian forces have been trying for 10 months to punch their way into the shattered remains of what was once a city of 70,000. Kyiv has pledged to defend Bakhmut, which Russia sees as a stepping stone to attacking other cities.
"For several weeks, the Russians have been talking about seizing the 'road of life,' as well as about constant fire control over it," Serhiy Cherevatyi, a spokesperson for Ukrainian troops in the east, said in an interview with local news website Dzerkalo Tyzhnia.
"Yes, it is really difficult there ... (but) the defence forces have not allowed the Russians to 'cut off' our logistics."
The "road of life" is a vital road between the ruined Bakhmut and the nearby town Chasiv Yar to the west - a distance of just over 17 km (10.56 miles).
Ukraine's top military command said in its daily update on Sunday that its forces had repelled 58 Russian attacks over the past day along the part of frontline stretching from Bakhmut through Avdiivka and on to Maryinka further south in the Donetsk region.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of Russia's Wagner Group, who has often claimed unverifiable successes, said that his forces have advanced some 100 to 150 metres (109 to 164 yards) in Bakhmut, leaving just under 3 square km of the city in Ukrainian hands.
But he said he lost 94 troops.

Oh, so is that why Prigozhin is screaming bloody murder and threatening to pull what's left of Wagner out of Bakhmut to leave a gaping hole in the rapidly thinning Russian front lines?

From what I understand the slow taking of Bakhmut was intentionally done by the Russians to grind the Ukrainian army to dust. Considering that the military paper that leaked indicates that the Russians have been killing Ukes at the rate of 7:1 and possibly even 10:1 or higher, would prove this strategy out.
Both sides are waiting to begin their offensives and counter-offensives until the mud dries out.

Of course, Russians are getting killed in the combat. I never denied that. The rate at which Russians are getting killed compared to Ukes is 1 Russian to every 7 Ukes. Take that photo you posted and make seven of them and throw a Uke flag on it.

I’m impervious to all of the propaganda, by the way, so you don’t need to waste time spewing it at me. I think both Russia and Ukraine are as corrupt as the day is long. I think their propaganda is cluttery, obnoxious noise. I despise Putin and Zelensky.
I am, however, vehemently opposed to Biden-Obama giving unchecked billions to Zelensky with no accountability requirements whatsoever. I despise seeing that mincing little grifter demanding our money and equipment.
And I have learned that a lot of the Ukrainians here on FR are a nasty, rude lot, hissing hate and insults at every turn as they spam and pollute this forum daily.

You're too stupid of baboon to realize that sucking more Ukrainians into a death trap in a war of attrition is fulfilling the Russian strategy of defeating the Ukraine army.
Ukraine is low on men, ammo and missiles for their air defense. Ukraine doesn't the manpower and NATO can't match Russian production of ammo and missiles. Thus, the reason, the counteroffensive hasn't happened and may never happen.
The irony is still completely lost on you, I see.
