Ex-president Donald Trump spent an hour on Friday talking to his former adviser Steve Bannon during which he bashed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and claimed that Republican donors are abandoning the not-yet-declared 2024 presidential candidate and flocking to the Trump campaign.
Trump has been doing long interviews with right-wing talk hosts to promote his new book. Last week Fox’s Mark Levin spent an hour with Trump on the subject, and on Friday it was Trump’s former adviser Bannon, who hosts a daily show on the Real America’s Voice network.
Trump lit into DeSantis, as he does routinely to the governor who is his top rival in the party, and claimed “off the record” that GOP donors are abandoning DeSantis and calling him up.
“DeSanctis is failing badly. Ron DeSanctimonious,” said Trump, referring to polls that continue to show Trump far, far ahead of the entire rest of the GOP field.
He repeated his now familiar routine about having rescued DeSantis from an inglorious end to his career, and then brought up the subject of money.
It was an interesting choice by Trump considering that the news broke this week that DeSantis, who is not even an official candidate, has crushed Trump’s fundraising as well as that of the rest of the presumed and declared candidates. But one big donor did say, to an extreme amount of media attention, that he is putting his DeSantis support on “pause” last week, which Trump appeared to latch onto.

As I have posted here multiple times, it is a snapshot. Trump could take the lead in fundraising next quarter.
Trump won 2016 with less than Hillary and lost 2020 with more than Biden. Money does not equal victory.
The purpose was to show that despite all the postings about doom for DeSantis, he raised more than Trump in Q1. That is all
I don't understand why FACTS rile up some Trump people so much!
“You can’t take a win and see it as progress towards the goal.”
Thirteen state governors did what DeSantis could not do —banned abortions DeSantis caved and allowed abortions. That is not progress toward bannng abortion, that is DeSantis sanctioning abortions and that is not a win. You really believe that he will ever sign a bill banning abortions?
Just give it up. DeSantis, with an eye on running for president and wanting to place himself in what he thinks is the best possible light on abortion — against it but allowing it — played politics with the lives of countless babies.
So you claim the electorate of Florida is identical to those other 13 states?
You clearly do not believe in states' rights, which is where the abortion issue currently resides.
Lastly, yes, DeSantis would sign a ban if it could get through the legislature.
Florida had a 24 week limit on abortion before DeSantis. Then, DeSantis signed a 15 week ban, but kept pushing and got the 6 week ban.
You wish to spin this as support for abortion because you have no substance and just want to attack DeSantis for his conservative agenda. You are no conservative.
I don’t think folks are riled up, but it’s clear from the article the implication is that the fundraising numbers are being used to imply Desantis is doing well.. and that’s just not true.
His polling way behind everywhere, even in the state he is governor of.
2 very big donors have publicly announced they have halted/put on hold, their funding of him him in the last few weeks.
Desantis is crashing in the polls, but because Trump said so, we will cite fundraising as a counter example to that.
I don’t have any issue with the facts, but you cannot argue that the entire point of this article is to try to counter example the very very real collapse in polling Desantis had seen recently, with oh yea, but he’s fundraising more.
Desantis’ biggest issue is he is beholden to the establishment money men… just like all 15 or 16 candidates who weren’t named Trump were in 16. This puts him, and any other establishment candidate at the disadvantage the 16 candidates had.
Trump is free to talk about the issue with the system and criticize any part of it, while the establishment money make sure that the rest won’t say a word about any of it because their backers benefit from the system as it stands.
It’s not a coincidence no one was talking nafta, illegals or manufacturing etc etc etc before Trump in 16. And he’ll have that same freedom in this cycle, because the folks like Desantis and others can’t speak about the obvious issues because the folks funding them benefit from it.
Show me the proof of this, not just a list of names.
Post links showing DeSantis is getting money from X
Sigh.
Open your eyes. Desantis was bitch slapped back into line in just a few hours after he said a rather innocuous statement that War in Ukraine was a territorial dispute…
He got knee capped by the establishment and was back on the reservation faster than clinton was on an intern.
You think that “never back down” super pac that has raise $30M and not disclosed a single donors name is just John Q Public? You are beyond naive.
You are wrong.
Here is the latest of what DeSantis said:"While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural, and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them," DeSantis said.
So, nobody "slapped" DeSantis back. He is on Trump's side in this and also called for a cease-fire and peace talks.
If DeSantis was in the pocket of the big donors, he would have backed off Disney, which is a big donor to the GOP (as is Anheuser-Busch)
DeSantis gave up that Disney money while Trump and the RINOs keep taking it. Trump took over $10 million from Disney in 2020.
DeSantis is right on Ukraine and Disney. He also didn't send out a proxy to call for an end to the Bud Lite boycott, like Trump did.
Yep. That’s two of the many endorsements for Trump.
It is most telling that Trump leads DeSantis 11-1 in endorsements from the Florida Congressional delegates. That’s a pretty solid statement about what other Florida Republicans think about DeSantis.
LOL
That’s all you’ve got?
So it’s okay if the RNC wants DeSantis?
It’s okay if the media give him a pass?
It’s okay he has not top level CEO experience?
It’s okay he has never had to conduct negotiations with
different governments to get his business positioned?
Ron has been a good governor, but I am still reminded that
his Legislature leans his way. Has he ever had to deal
with real opposition and perform?
Trump did, and you can read what he accomplished at the
White House server.
We waited decades to do away with the Roe Vs Wade ruling.
Trump accomplished that.
You and Ronnie supporters have to blatantly lie about Trump to make a point.
