Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), the assistant House Democratic leader, said the debt limit bill backed by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will be “dead on arrival” in the Senate.
Clyburn said Saturday in an interview on MSNBC that he does not believe the Lift, Save, Grow Act — which the House narrowly passed in a 217-215 vote on Wednesday — itself will bring President Biden to negotiate on raising the debt ceiling, but negotiations can start after the House bill is dead.

Clyburn should be DOA.
Get ready for a GOV shutdown then.
You heard it first here!!! Democrat Clyburn wants to shut the government down!!!
Unfortunately, the media will blame any government shutdown on the Republicans.
This battle may well show us, how hard McCarthy and Republicans are willing to fight, on other things as well.
Wasn’t part of the negotiations to get enough votes for McCarthy as speaker, that it will be easy to call a new vote, to “vacate the chair”, and do a new vote? I’m thinking that if McCarthy folds somehow on this, he can lose his speakership.
Time will tell.
The Democrats need to explain to the young people in the USA what they are facing with the debt and the carrying costs of the debt. Of course they will not.
Well I think the Senate is the “Walking Dead” so DOA is not surprising.
Let the dead bury the dead and may God restore our Free Constitutional Republic!!!
Let’s DIG IN OUR HEELS, and show Clyburn who is the boss. THE PEOPLE.
Just eliminate the debt ceiling and add $10 trillion or $20 trillion to the debt every year. We can all live large. Nothing can go wrong because it is Modern Monetary Theory. Those BRICS country currencies on the rise? Nothing to see there. The dollar will always reign supreme.
It’s all piss-poor Washington DC insider games and theater. They are spending the nation into oblivion and will continue to do so. Trimming a little bit here and there from spending is meaningless.
If they were serious about saving the nation, they would be discussing ways to cut the federal government by 50% this year, 50% next year, and 50% the year after that.
Clyburn doesn't but I do.
One way or the other DISMANTLE THE $3+ TRILLION UNCONSTITUTIONAL PORTION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
The debt AND inflation problems will disappear before our very eyes.
Next stop: “default”.
Destination: N.E.S.A.R.A.
Of course it’s dead on arrival because it doesn’t help make the Middle Class history. Given the history of the Democrats enslaving blacks it amazes me that the ones in power still get out and shill for them.
The message Republicans should be repeating over and over again is:
1) The House has passed a budget as required by the Constitution which requires appropriation bills to originate in the House. This budget will keep the government running if the Senate and President approve the budget. If the Senate declines to approve the budget, the Senate has made the decision to shut down the government. If the Senate approve, and the president vetos the bill, it is the president who is shutting down the government.
2) If the Senate or the White House has specific items they wish to add to the appropriations bill, or delete from the budget, the House will submit each item to a separate vote in the House. If the House votes for the item, the bill will be sent to the Senate for that item. If the House votes no, it will not be included in any future appropriations bill for 2024.
3) If a government shutdown occurs due to inaction by the Senate or a veto by the president, the House should simply keep resubmitting its appropriations bill to the Senate stating passing the bill will end the shutdown.
The only choice is to hang tough. Agreeing to another omnibus spending bill written by staff and lobbyists and passed without any review is just another nail in the coffin of the Republic. If they are going to cave, they should just cave now. Let the Dems write the appropriations bill, pass the bill, send it to the Senate and continue the spending orgy. This is the cross to die on for the Republican Congress.

I like your procedure idea and message also.
“ Unfortunately, the media will blame any government shutdown on the Republicans.”
Of course they will, and Republicans will take a hit initially. If they would stop being cowards, and attacking themselves, and caving every time this happens, people would realize, after a couple weeks, the world isn’t ending, their lives are not affected, the Republicans would gain the upper hand.
Clyburn and his daughter have made careers mooching off the government.
So the Democrats are putting their narrow partisan interests ahead of the good of the country. If the US defaults on its bonds, we’ll know whom to thank.
If it weren’t for the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, all unconstitutional House bills would be dead on arrival in Senate.
