I thought cultural appropriation was “violence.”
I guess that, like so many rules, it doesn’t apply to blacks.

Cleopatra was not even Egyptian.
She was direct descendent of Ptolemaius Soter, one of the Alexander’s general.
From Macedonia, north of Greece.

The Egyptians are not going to let this go without a fight. They have deeply ingrained ideas about each and every ethnicity, including blacks, asians and without question, jews. They don’t care who knows it.

I remember a production of ‘How Green Was My Valley”, a story about a Welch coal mining community, that featured Cicely Tyson in the lead female part. Too stupid to imagine. That lasted only a short time.

Historical evidence or someone’s strong opinion? Regardless, I’ll side with what the Egyptians are saying on the subject.

Some of the REALLY ancient Egyptians (thousands of years before Cleopatra) were black. Like this guy.
But Cleopatra was Greek. In modern terms a European colonialist.
But the Netfix version is consistent with African American folklore of the 20th century. It's almost like a religious doctrine among many African Americans.
And African Americans are the target audience, not Egyptians.
And the Liz Taylor version wasn't all that historically accurate either.

That lasted only a short time. Then there's the Carousel revival on Broadway with a black Billy Bigelow. Early 20th Century Maine is NOT where you would see this romance happen.

You don’t believe in casting by merit, not skin color?
