Mitt will support a democrat over a conservative any day of the week. I suspect he is actually scared that the GOP will take over the majority in the Senate. With the status quo, he and Manchin can work together to make sure any legislation will benefit them personally, prevent conservatives from moving forward any legislation, and maintain their personas as principled “moderate” politicians who are willing to compromise with the other party.
