Ron DeSantis to meet UK ministers on tour to boost foreign policy credentials

Ron DeSantis is due to spend Friday in Britain on the last leg of a world tour aimed at enhancing his foreign policy credentials before an expected run for the Republican nomination.

Formally, DeSantis will meet the foreign secretary, James Cleverly, and the business secretary, Kemi Badenoch, in his role as governor of Florida, the third most populous US state.

Nigel Farage’s new rightwing Reform UK party is also trying to secure a meeting.

Despite being greeted by the prime ministers of Japan and South Korea on earlier legs of the trip, he won’t meet the British prime minster, Rishi Sunak – in part because it is not standard diplomatic protocol for a prime minister to meet a US governor, UK officials say.

the timing of DeSantis’s tour, which has also included Japan, South Korea and Israel, has been dictated by the brewing primary contest with Donald Trump. It is a race in which he is trailing badly, though as he pointed out on the Japanese leg of the trip, the numbers could change when he formally declares his bid.

The fact he has not officially entered the race has not stopped attacks from the Trump camp, who view him as the only serious challenger. While Trump boasts of his personal rapport with some of the world’s leaders, suggesting it gives him a unique ability to resolve big conflicts around the world, DeSantis’s previous experience abroad is limited to his deployment as a legal adviser to a Navy Seal team in Iraq, and some limited travel as Florida governor.

This trip, and the accompanying footage of handshaking with foreign officials, will provide a rebuttal to claims he is too inexperienced in the ways of the world to be president.

He will now be in a position to say, “Do you want me to get you some haggis? Because I know a guy ...”

Trump campaign lashes out at DeSantis, rips Florida governor for leaving ‘a wake of destruction’
“The real DeSantis record is one of misery and despair,” said Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung. “He has left a wake of destruction all across Florida and people are hurting because he has spent more time playing public relations games instead of actually doing the hard-work needed to improve the lives of the people he represents.”

Going on a trip gives you foreign policy credentials? Only in the make believe world of the MSM. Whatever DeSantis’s abilities on foreign policy, this trip will have no effect one way or the other. It’s nothing more than campaign optics done at the suggestion of his overpaid consultants.

It's beyond silly think meeting with foreign leaders in any way enhance his foreign policy credentials.

He has no experience in foreign policy. He flip-flopped on the Ukraine war and destroyed his credibility on the topic.

There is no chance he can compete with Trump on the issue. Trump has been President and foreign policy was one of his strengths.

Good week?

The polls say otherwise:

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/04/27/poll-donald-trump-surges-to-62-percent-ron-desantis-crashes-to-16-percent/

Former President Donald Trump has surged to 62 percent support in April among Republican primary voters, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has crashed to 16 percent, Emerson College polling trends show.

Since January, Trump has gained 20 points over DeSantis, when the former president held 55 percent of GOP support, with DeSantis at 29 percent support, a 26-point spread.

Can you say hypocrite?

Such comments by me, are my obviously poor attempt at satire or parody. I will endeavor to make the same comments on Trump threads in the future.
