I’m an original REI member with a number so low it always surprises them when I order anything. Long, long, long before anything Internet .
Here in backwater Hawaii ,REI was the best, and perhaps only , resource . Their catalogs were like treasures .

I was in an REI store only once and bought a mummy style sleeping bag. That thing was well constructed and lasted a long time.

I have a bank account like that. My grandfather helped found a credit union and opened an account for me when I was a baby.

I think I have account 14. There’s not much in the account as I now live several states away. They triggered some sort of non-usage fee but never informed me. When I called to get that fixed, I suggested maybe they reconsider probably losing their oldest living customer.

Bought climbing gear, bags, etc.
Stopped that when the CEO turned crap.

"Really Expensive Items".

They do have some things that nobody else has. They can always get Yakima cargo racks and fittings, even when Yakima's online store is "out of stock".

But I avoid them when possible - especially after they went super left wing.
