Former President Donald Trump is letting his fellow Republicans know he is not interested in participating in the 2024 primary debates, at least as far as they’ve been planned to date, without his approval.
The presumptive frontrunner took to social media to complain that “nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them.” Two debates have been announced thus far, the first on Fox News and another at the Reagan Libary in Simi, California.
Trump wrote:
I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them. When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the “questions,” why subject yourself to being libeled and abused? Also, the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!

Down go the ratings
Well, he is the incumbent president, so, he deserves the respect that comes with incumbency. ;)
Two can play at Biden’s game...
Oddly enough did they contact DeSantis - who hasn’ officially announced his run yet?
It’s pretty much looking like the Party Machinery wants to run it all.
Blame Rona McRomney. I’m appalled the GOP/RNC has allowed this debate charade to continue the last few decades. Of course I would not participate with biased hosts.
There is NO NEED for debate hosts, just a timer and back and forth on the top 10 issues of the day. And no climate change or abortion questions.
I think this is a solid move.
There is nothing wrong with political debates…if each person present is allowed to pick one questioner of his/her choice.
But that never happens. Instead the questioners are all stacked against one candidate, which would be Trump in this case. I’d prefer that Trump participate. But he should insist on picking his fair share of the questioners.
That would be helpful all the way around. And maybe even set a precedence.
I went to a GOP debate in 1996. Dole was the front runner and he didn’t show up. He was the Viagra driven old gluehorse the Republicans put up to lose to Clinton.
Sadly Pat Buchanan could get no traction against Dole even after Pat won the NH primary.
The GOP sure has been an embarrassment.
I am actually surprised that his hand-picked head of the RNC did this without talking to him? Maybe it is normal that the party doesn’t talk to the candidates about the debates, but at some point, just as Trump is doing now the candidates have to say yay or nay. Regardless of who is running, I do hope that the Republicans hold a firm line on holding debates with neutral, or at least balanced moderators
There is NO reason for Republicans to subject themselves to be interrogated by Democrats with press passes.
Dole was the establishment candidate, every major contributor most likely backed him, Pat had NO chance as an outsider. The deck is stacked against the outsider, just look what they all do to Trump, and I'm talking about republicans.
Where do you get that they talk to DeSantis but not Trump? That is not in this article and I definitely have not read it elsewhere either.
Make it a debate for VP candidates. Naw, no one wants to campaign for the job but then they have to think of ‘28.
The RNC is looking to find another Chris Wallace to moderate the debates.
Reverse psychology!
So Trump endorsed the feckless cow, Ronna, for RNC Chair, and she screws him — AGAIN!
