Ukraine's ambassador to France, Vadym Omelchenko, called out the Chinese ambassador to France Lu Shaye's statement denying sovereignty to post-Soviet countries, including Ukraine.
Omelchenko wrote on Twitter on April 22 that there were "obvious problems with geography" and that Shaye's statement contradicted China's official position "on efforts to restore peace in Ukraine on the basis of international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter."

Name a European country.
I can name five other countries that had either owned it or has claims to it.
Which is the core fact of the Chinese comment.
This is especially true for the Ukraine. An artificial country which EVERY neighbor has ethnic or territorial claims.
China is only on Taiwan.
The mainland is just stolen country occupied by Communist thugs.
Or perhaps this guy is virtue signalling something that China won’t commit to, in order to reassure Putin, who really is doing a bang up job of depleting the Russian military!
“This is especially true for the Ukraine. An artificial country which EVERY neighbor has ethnic or territorial claims.”
The U.S.A. is artificial. It was created out of British, French, and Spanish/Mexican territories and colonies. So what’s your point again?
bttt
Didn’t China just update their maps to include Russian territory as their own?
“...An artificial country...”
The USA fits in that definition......
If Ukraine is an artificial country, then most countries throughout history have been artificial countries.
Whoops!
Yes, but they did live there!
Exactly. There is no magical year or point in time when the borders of the world's nations became fixed and immutable. Mexico will officially reclaim a good portion of the SW within 50 years.
“China is only on Taiwan...”
All that’s left of Nationalist China, after fighting Japan for almost a decade. Communist thugs took over greater China, and embarked on murderous rampages, taking 50 million lives.

You beat me to it. And when you think about it, pretty much every country is artificial. Germany, Italy, etc. So Ukraine is hardly unique in that regard.
When Reagan’s policies freed the Ukes from tyranny, the plan wasn’t to subject them to the tyranny of being a woke pervo globalist satrapy. Who knows, some day actual freedom, like they enjoyed after the Soviets left and before the Obama/Soros gang showed up in 2014, might return. There is that possibility with a Trump presidency in ‘25.
And Hong Kong and Taiwan and Xinjiang....
Okay, now that is a good one. Kudos.
.
The Chinese ambassador’s statement was an oblique reference to the situation in Taiwan. By recognizing independent states that were former Soviet republics, it puts pressure on the mainland Communist government to recognize the indelendence and legitimacy of the Nationalist government in Taiwan.
You sound pretty certain, and I’m certainly no great shakes at foreign policy, so please forgive my idle thoughts.
China is the only country in the world with something like a boot disk. If anything ever goes terribly horribly wrong on the mainland, there is still a government in semi-exile, they could reset them to an earlier period in their history and barely miss a beat. China is also Taiwan’s biggest trading partner.
Now thinking logically, it is true that Russia controlled the former Soviet bloc nations, but the period of time that they controlled them is infinitesimally small compared to the time that Vladivostok was Chinese territory. Those renamed cities were clearly a shot over Russia’s bow. It looks to me as though if Russia does try to claim their former satellites, even as their army is being destroyed trying to claim Ukraine, they will be justifying China doing the same thing to them. Who could argue the logic?
