New Hampshire's Sununu is right: Trump is a loser
Washington Examiner ^ | April 23, 2023 10:21 AM | Quin Hillyer, Commentary Writer

New Hampshire's uber-popular Republican governor Chris Sununu put it plainly on NBC's Meet the Press: "Donald Trump is a loser."

Before that, Sununu had rightly rebuked all the pundits who say the GOP presidential nomination for 2024 is a done deal. "Most folks don’t decide who they are voting for until about three weeks before the election," he said.

And he is right.

At this time, a year before the 2008 election, Hillary Clinton was the odds-on favorite to be the Democratic nominee. She lost to Barack Obama. At this time, 28 months before the 2016 election, polls showed the idea of Trump as president was a joke. And so on, and on, and on, and on.

Having made the point that voters change their minds, Sununu said Republican voters are going to be increasingly concerned with which potential nominee can actually beat the Democrats in 2024. He said it is absolutely clear that Trump cannot do so. This is evident not only from polls, which show Trump's approval rating at just 34% of Americans today, but also from actual election results.

"Trump is positioning himself to be a four-time loser in 2024," Sununu said.

In 2018, under Trump's lack of leadership, Republicans get absolutely routed in House elections. In 2020, Trump lost to Biden, and Republicans lost the Senate. The latter loss was directly attributable to Trump, as he went out of his way to torpedo two Republican Senate candidates in runoffs in Georgia because he kept telling Republican voters the system was rigged, giving the idea that voting was useless.

Then, in 2022, Republican Senate candidates Trump personally chose lost across the country, while Republican candidates not closely tied to Trump won. Alas, there were too many of the former, and Republicans lost a host of winnable races,...

I don’t want Trump to be President again of The United States because it won’t do any good. We are two nations divided by good vs. evil. There is no coexisting. I want Trump to be the catalyst for our national divorce whatever shape that may take. Do not want any future together with these demons form hell. They will take us all down as they are currently doing even if Trump is President.

“Trump has a solid base of at least 50,000,000 voters who aren’t going anywhere.”

I wouldn’t bet on that. I was one of those 50MM for 2 elections but Trump’s thin skinned juvenile attacks on DeSantis and lies about his record in Florida have convinced me that the man has become unfit to serve. DeSantis hasn’t even declared he’s running yet and Trump is denigrating him at every opportunity. Let’s be serious, this is not rational behavior.

Anyone think Biden will run again? No way imo. The Dem nominee will be much younger than 76 yo Trump, maybe even a female Gov. Trump lost me at “Desanctimonious”.

Trump, at the Lee County dinner meeting on Friday, had more people outside the venue than any Biden rally.

Trump a loser? Sorry, the base, who want to help Americans not GLOBALISTS, is supporting Trump and nobody else.

Globalists desperately want to go back to the old days when Republican voters did what the vulture capitalists told them to, never complaining about selling our country to China, and cheering on tax subsidies for billionaires while they cut Social Security.

If it wasn’t for his famous father, (John H. Sununu, Chris Christies brother from another mother) no one would have ever heard of you!

Funny how Wiki has a photo of him (John) AT LEAST 100 lbs lighter than I remember him. He is/was one UGLY mother as well!

How much did you pay for that gubmit helicopter ride John?

Coexistence does not work. A “national divorce” would put terror states on our new borders, and leave many conservative states landlocked.

Trump is the strongest GOP candidate, but that’s absurd to think he’s going to be in the White House before 2025.

No, he was cheated by a band of criminals. Anyone who accomplished what he did, in spite of enormous obstacles is a winner. Look at his accomplishment. When Trump left office it is nation and world who lost out!!!

Rebuilt the military and created the Sixth Branch, the United States Space Force
• Completely rebuilt the United States military with over $2.2 trillion in defense spending, including $738 billion for 2020
• Secured three pay raises for our service members and their families, including the largest raise in a decade
• Established the Space Force, the first new branch of the United States Armed Forces since 1947
• Modernized and recapitalized our nuclear forces and missile defenses to ensure they continue to serve as a strong deterrent
• Upgraded our cyber defenses by elevating the Cyber Command into a major warfighting command and reducing burdensome procedural restrictions on cyber operations
• Vetoed the FY21 National Defense Authorization Act, which failed to protect our national security, disrespected the history of our veterans and military, and contradicted our efforts to put America first
Defeated terrorists, held leaders accountable for malign actions, and bolstered peace around the world
• Defeated 100 percent of ISIS’ territorial caliphate in Iraq and Syria
• Freed nearly 8 million civilians from ISIS’ bloodthirsty control, and liberated Mosul, Raqqa, and the final ISIS foothold of Baghuz
• Killed the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and eliminated the world’s top terrorist, Qasem Soleimani
• Created the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) in partnership between the United States and its Gulf partners to combat extremist ideology and threats, and target terrorist financial networks, including over 60 terrorist individuals and entities spanning the globe
• Twice took decisive military action against the Assad regime in Syria for the barbaric use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians, including a successful 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles strike
• Authorized sanctions against bad actors tied to Syria’s chemical weapons program
• Negotiated an extended ceasefire with Turkey in northeast Syria
Addressed gaps in American’s defense-industrial base, providing much-needed updates to improve the safety of our country
• Protected America’s defense-industrial base, directing the first whole-of-government assessment of our manufacturing and defense supply chains since the 1950s
• Took decisive steps to secure our information and communications technology and services supply chain, including unsafe mobile applications
• Completed several multi-year nuclear material removal campaigns, securing over 1,000 kilograms of highly enriched uranium and significantly reducing global nuclear threats
• Signed an executive order directing Federal agencies to work together to diminish the capability of foreign adversaries to target our critical electric infrastructure
• Established a whole-of-government strategy addressing the threat posed by China’s malign efforts targeting the United States taxpayer-funded research and development ecosystem
• Advanced missile defense capabilities and regional alliances
• Bolstered the ability of our allies and partners to defend themselves through the sale of military equipment

Energy & Environment
America’s energy revolution under President Trump produced affordable, reliable energy for customers along with stable, high-paying jobs for small businesses—all while dropping U.S. carbon emissions to their lowest level in 25 years.
The Trump Administration led the United States to become the number one producer of oil in the world while maintaining America’s position as the number one natural gas producer. The year 2019 marked the first time in 67 years that American annual gross energy exports exceeded gross energy imports.
To safeguard the environment, President Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord, after which the United States reduced carbon emissions more than any country in the agreement. Under President Trump, the United States continued to lead the world in greenhouse gas emission reductions, cutting energy-related CO2 emissions by 12 percent from 2005 to 2018.

Administration Achievements

AMERICAN ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
Unleashed America’s oil and natural gas potential
• For the first time in nearly 70 years, the United States has become a net energy exporter
• The United States is now the number one producer of oil and natural gas in the world
• Natural gas production reached a record high of 34.9 quads in 2019, following record-high production in both 2018 and 2017
• The United States has been a net natural gas exporter for three consecutive years and has an export capacity of nearly 10 billion cubic feet per day
• Withdrew from the unfair, one-sided Paris Climate Agreement
• Canceled the previous administration’s Clean Power Plan, and replaced it with the new Affordable Clean Energy rule
• Approved the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines
• Opened up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska to oil and gas leasing
• Repealed the last administration’s Federal Coal Leasing Moratorium, which prohibited coal leasing on Federal lands
• Reformed permitting rules to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy and speed approval for mines
• Fixed the New Source Review permitting program, which punished companies for upgrading or repairing coal power plants
• Fixed the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) steam electric and coal ash rules
• The average American family saved $2,500 a year in lower electric bills and lower prices at the gas pump
• Signed legislation repealing the harmful Stream Protection Rule
• Reduced the time to approve drilling permits on public lands by half, increasing permit applications to drill on public lands by 300 percent
• Expedited approval of the NuStar’s New Burgos pipeline to export American gasoline to Mexico
• Streamlined liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal permitting and allowed long-term LNG export authorizations to be extended through 2050
• The United States is now among the top three LNG exporters in the world
• Increased LNG exports five-fold since January 2017, reaching an all-time high in January 2020
• LNG exports are expected to reduce the American trade deficit by over $10 billion
• Granted more than 20 new long-term approvals for LNG exports to non-free trade agreement countries
• The development of natural gas and LNG infrastructure in the United States is providing tens of thousands of jobs and has led to the investment of tens of billions of dollars in infrastructure
• There are now 6 LNG export facilities operating in the United States, with 2 additional export projects under construction
• The amount of nuclear energy production in 2019 was the highest on record, through a combination of increased capacity from power plant upgrades and shorter refueling and maintenance cycles
• Prevented Russian energy coercion across Europe through various lines of effort, including the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation, civil nuclear deals with Romania and Poland, and opposition to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline
• Issued the Presidential Permit for the A2A railroad between Canada and Alaska, providing energy resources to emerging markets
Increased access to our country’s abundant natural resources in order to achieve energy independence
• Renewable energy production and consumption both reached record highs in 2019

SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT
Took strong action to protect the environment and ensure clean air and clean water
• Took action to protect vulnerable Americans from being exposed to lead and copper in drinking water and finalized a rule protecting children from lead-based paint hazards
• Invested over $38 billion in clean water infrastructure
• In 2019, America achieved the largest decline in carbon emissions of any country on Earth. Since withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, the United States has reduced carbon emissions more than any nation
• American levels of particulate matter—one of the main measures of air pollution—are approximately five times lower than the global average
• Between 2017 and 2019, the air became 7 percent cleaner—indicated by a steep drop in the combined emissions of criteria pollutants
• Led the world in greenhouse gas emissions reductions, having cut energy-related CO2 emissions by 12 percent from 2005 to 2018—while the rest of the world increased emissions by 24 percent
• In FY 2019 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cleaned up more major pollution sites than any year in nearly two decades
• The EPA delivered $300 million in Brownfields grants directly to communities most in need, including investment in 118 Opportunity Zones
• Placed a moratorium on offshore drilling off the coasts of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida
• Restored public access to Federal land at Bears Ears National Monument and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
• Recovered more endangered or threatened species than any other administration in its first term

Budget & Spending
President Trump’s Federal Budget committed to restraint while prioritizing the funding needed to rebuild our national defense and strengthen America’s borders.
Under President Trump, Congress passed the first overhaul of the United States tax code in more than 30 years, putting money into the pockets of millions of American families. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act included the launch of “Opportunity Zones,” which bring hope and a brighter future to nearly 9,000 distressed communities with tax incentives for new development.
In 2019 alone, the Trump Administration surpassed its promise of removing two existing regulations for each new regulation added, issuing 150 deregulatory actions alongside just 35 new significant regulatory actions. This deregulatory wave unleashed massive benefits for the American people and our economy.

The republicans left who think the next election can be “finessed” are either from the swamp/consultant class, big money stakeholders including several conservative pundits or those who choose to be ignorant and not facing the gravitas of the times. I know, reality is hard to face. I have some in my family who choose that course.

As a sidenote it’s interesting to watch many at FOXnews and the Clay/Bucks of the world straddle the fence knowing their audience could disappear in a heartbeat much like Bud Lights.

Too bad Rush is gone. Not many to look up to for real leadership anymore.
