Semi-automatic rifle ban passes Washington state Legislature

A ban on dozens of semi-automatic rifles cleared the Washington state Legislature on Wednesday and the governor is expected to sign it into law.

The high-powered firearms — once banned nationwide — are now the weapon of choice among young men responsible for most of the country’s devastating mass shootings.

The ban comes after multiple failed attempts in the state’s Legislature, and amid the most mass shootings during the first 100 days of a calendar year since 2009.

The Washington law would block the sale, distribution, manufacture and importation of more than 50 gun models, including AR-15s, AK-47s and similar style rifles. These guns fire one bullet per trigger pull and automatically reload for a subsequent shot. Some exemptions are included for sales to law enforcement agencies and the military in Washington. The measure does not bar the possession of the weapons by people who already have them.

The law would go into effect immediately once it’s signed by Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee, who has long advocated for such a ban.

Apparently they don’t have the mental capacity to understand “shall not be infringed.”

Won’t work.

Unconstitutional and IMPOSSIBLE to enforce.

New York State passed a law requiring me to “register” my “assault rifle”.

I would have, but it fell overboard while I was fishing. /s

The left (Democrats) all think that they can stop something just by passing a law.

It takes “enforcement” to make a law effective.

Since this new law is unenforceable, it is worthless!

“Cold dead hands” comes to mind.

In response to this new law, owners of such weapons should BUY MORE AMMO!

or

Move to a constitutional carry state. HALF of them are. Lots to choose from.

“Some exemptions are included for sales to law enforcement agencies and the military in Washington.”

Because it’s vial that the State retain the abiity to murder large masses of citizens with very little effort for, oh, this reason or that.

Implicit in the exception for LE and military is the factual knowledge that the guns are not - repeat not - evil in and of themselves, even though that violates the leftist memes on guns. Leftists just can’t help stepping on their dicks whenever they make an utterance or pass a law.

I wonder what makes them think we will obey.

Worthless Public servants do not dictate what their masters can own.

“After multiple failed attempts… etc”.

You could as easily say after multiple failed attempts the thief finally succeeded in stealing something really precious. The lying POS who wrote is obviously giddy that the citizens in WA lost something of great value.

Good point... I was very young when the military started using the M16 and soldiers referred to it as a poodle shooter.

I think that even in more rural western WA they’re going to find some semi-auto resistance.

“Memo to self: Add Washington state to list of places where you don’t want to live.”

I would just put just Puget Sound area and up and down I-5 corridor on your list. The geographic majority of WA State is fine (although subject to this new law, it should be stayed before long.
