Hungarian PM throws wrench in Ukraine's NATO aspirations

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán appeared concerned by the prospect of Ukraine entering NATO this week, reacting forcefully to comments from Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg saying that the country's "rightful place" is in the bloc.

Orbán responded to a Politico article on Stoltenberg's comments, simply exclaiming "What?!"

Hungary, under Orbán's leadership, has become something of an outlier among NATO countries in terms of its response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Budapest maintains close ties to Moscow and the country is highly dependent on Russian energy.

The country has not provided arms to Ukraine, unlike most of the bloc, Politico reported. The outlet noted that NATO, including Hungary, agreed in 2008 to eventually permit Ukrainian entry into NATO. Orbán was not prime minister at the time.

However, joining the alliance requires unanimous consent of the member countries. Sweden's bid, for example, has raised objections from both Turkey and Hungary and it remains outside the alliance.

Ukraine will be a drain on other NATO countries if it ever gets approved.

Some "outliers" aren't necessarily bad.

If he keeps being sensible, and makes decisions that support his people, and that his people agree with, and they’re gonna have to get rid of him. THEY simply can’t have that.

As the most corrupt nation in the EU Hungary can probably be brought along when that distant day comes.

Well, as the EU just banned the Ukie’s grain from entering their countries, one has to wonder their suicidal motives. That said, Russia, it has been announced, is shipping Africa its fertilizer for free. Vlad even has waived the shipping costs.

So, we can see the EU is fracturing, they realize senile Joe’s sanctions have boomeranged and are coming to the realization Russia has everything they need and much of what the West needs.

The EU is broke, should they decide to absorb the Ukies into the EU ( they won’t), they will have to print off a trillion $ for its rebuilding. Go for it, it will be the final nail in their coffin.

Vlad simply holds all the cards, and easily outmaneuvers the Ukie war cheerleaders at every turn…the war cheerleaders picked a senile, corrupted, immoral old man to lead their cause…..easy to see how this ends.

I have seen rankings where Greece and Bulgaria are more corrupt. Regardless, nobody disputes that EU aspirant Ukraine is more corrupt than any of them.

Everyone in the EU knows this age old saying, “ when shaking hands with a Ukrainian, be sure to check how many fingers he stole”, getting more obvious every day to those outside of the EU……

Hungary is the most corrupt of the EU countries and Russia is the most corrupt of the European countries.

Both Hungary and Russia are getting worse while Ukraine is getting better.

I heard that said about the Russians back in the 1950s.

This isn’t the Soviet Union we are dealing with. Russia has embraced capitalism, and have become good at it. ( as I witnessed living there ). Russia today is the world’s leading exporter of many things the collective West needs. They don’t need us, the West needs them.

“Initially, I thought we had only shot ourselves in the foot, but now it is clear that the European economy has shot itself in the lungs, and it is gasping for air,”

- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a long-time sanctions critic, told public radio in an interview.

Vlad holds all the cards, and there is nothing the West can do about it, except shout war, war, war.

Orban is far and away the best leader in Europe. Hungary is the best country in Europe.

Hungary forbids militant homosexual violence and the transsexual insanity. They have the nerve to protect their children. Currently, Hungary is a much better country than the perverted, immoral, incredibly corrupt US.

If I could, I would happily emigrate to Hungary.

EU= The Fourth Reich.

Propaganda and BS. Ukraine regularly tops the list of most corrupt and having actually both lived there twice as well as several other European countries and having traveled all over Europe, I can tell you Hungary is nowhere close to the most corrupt.

Anybody who says that hasn’t been to Romania....or Moldova...or Ukraine....or the Balkans.

For that matter, given how big business, the politicians and the media are all in bed together, I’d rate Germany pretty damn corrupt. Its not shaking you down for a few extra Euros type corruption. Its more like “I don’t like what you said so I’m going to claim it is therefore criminal and have the cops come kick in your door and drag you away” kind of corruption.

Except that it doesn’t, you can follow the rankings over the years and see where they rank now, where they ranked in the past, and if they are moving up are down, getting better or worse.

In 2014 Ukraine was more corrupt than Russia, but they have been working on improving while Russia has been degrading on corruption.

Hungary is nowhere near the most corrupt country in Europe. Of course the Yurps....the EU elites and their sycophants....hate them and are going to pan them in the ratings due to POLITICS - not due to reality.

I’ve lived in 4 European countries including Hungary twice. I learned the language. Pretty much everything to the East and South of Hungary is far far more corrupt.
