The backing of 11 Republican lawmakers out of 20 in DeSantis’s own back yard has raised questions about his viability as a competitor to Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
While DeSantis has not officially declared he is running, he is widely expected to announce a bid for the presidency after Florida’s legislative session wraps up in May. In the meantime, he has stepped up his travel around the country, and is set to go on an international trip to meet with U.S. allies Israel, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
This week he met with GOP lawmakers in Washington, DC, and a DeSantis political aide reportedly called Florida Republicans asking them not to endorse Trump — which makes the recent backing of several more Florida Republican lawmakers even more damaging to DeSantis.
So far, Florida GOP Reps. Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna, Byron Donalds, Cory Mills, Vern Buchanan, Gus Bilirakis, Carlos Gimenz, John Rutherford, Greg Steube, Brian Mast, and Mike Waltz have all endorsed Trump.
Waltz’s endorsement, first reported by Breitbart News, was particularly significant, given that he took over DeSantis’s former district.
Other GOP lawmakers have lined up behind Trump, including Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX), who announced his support moments after leaving the D.C. meeting with DeSantis.
Some lawmakers have begun openly criticizing DeSantis. According to Politico Playbook, Steube said he never once heard back from DeSantis’s office despite repeated calls — until Trump starting picking up Florida congressional endorsements. In contrast, he said Trump was the first person he remembers calling him after he was hospitalized in a tree-trimming accident.

Paul Ryan was a big problem in the House when Trump was president and when Trump wanted to get something done in the House.
Paul Ryan is now part of the DeSantis team screwing things up.
“Primaries matter, endorsements are merely nice to have.”
not quite ... public endorsements by powerful people are an indicator of sentiment at the top levels, and help focus the thinking of megadoners as to whether to piss their millions away on losers or perhaps try to win some points with winners ... that and the amount of oxygen the leaders mange to suck out of the public discourse leaves the losers behind, gasping in the dust ... the whole thing is like an avalanche that starts off with a tiny ice shelf breaking off at the top that soon turns into a massive freight train wiping everything out in its path ... it’s called momentum ... even some voters are influenced by wanting to vote for a winner ...
The wall didn’t get built, Hillary remains free, the Swamp wasn’t drained, and on and on
Not me. I like DeSantis in Florida. I voted for him in 2022; he needs to honor his promise to us to stay until 2026. He’ll get creamed in a Presidential election, probably by Trump in the primary.
You are just another brick in the wall.
You want 4 more years of failure and achievements that last as long as a morning fog
12 years.
Bastard. Reverting to his liberal roots.
I did try looking for anything related to her ambitions for her husband before your reply but couldn’t find anything other than biographical information and campaign ad. Would you mind giving me a keyword or idea of what seems over-the-top to you about her? I don’t vote according to a candidate’s wife, but I do like to know what kind of person has a big influence over him or her. I’ve certainly read a lot more about Mrs. Trump who seems low-key. I thought Mrs. DeSantis was similar in that respect but could be wrong. Jill Biden is a power-hungry train wreck, as are the Obama and Clinton wives.
I’ve seen articles in the news over the past 6 months, but don’t keep records of what I read here and elsewhere.
If I see anything I’ll pm you.
I did try just now and all I see is this, but this is not an article I’ve seen before, and I am unfamiliar with the source...
Thank you very much for the link. I guess if dressing in a classic style makes one look as though they aspire to be Jackie Kennedy, then she must be guilty. However, none of the dresses actually matched, they were just in the sheath style. A professional journalist as was Mrs. D is unlikely to dress frumpily, and I suspect that if she ever makes it to the White House as a resident, she will be ignored as much as possible by all the magazines as was Mrs. Trump.
I’ll try some different search engines to see what other criticisms come up about her. I’m a bit curious but don’t want to take up more of your time. Thanks again.
Comments on that article were funny.
I always thought Disney princesses wore voluminous dresses. Who knew that it was the gloves and not the gowns that made them look royal, lol
😂
I like people who take their contracts/promises seriously. I voted for DeSantis to be my Governor for the next four years. He ran for Governor, contract years 2022-2026. He is breaking his contract with the voters of Florida. What other contracts/promises is he willing to break for more power?
