Alvin Bragg promises not to prosecute theft to establish 'racial equity' balance: 'Crime of poverty'
Fox News ^ | 4/20/23 | Hannah Grossman

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said during his campaign that racial equity needed to be a priority and that he didn't believe thievery should be prosecuted since it was a "crime of poverty."

During the May 2021 meeting, Bragg articulated his intention to focus on racial equity instead of prosecuting theft.

"I grew up with friends disappearing over charges like that (theft) and even if there is an alternative [to incarceration, such as diversion programs, there is a] consequence of disruption for the family. We need to asking, 'Does something make us safer?' And prosecuting a young person, even if it doesn't end in incarceration [such as in diversion programs], in my view does not make us safer," he said. "I think we need to move away from what I would call a crime of poverty."

There is supposedly a guarantee of equal protection under the law. So, how is this not unconstitutional?

“Liberals are supremely stupid. I come in contact with them occasionally, and it’s all I can do to be civil. They’re just stupid.”

___

Before I retired a few years ago, I too was required to come in contact with them on occasion. It was painful and for the final few months of my employment, I had to bite my tongue so many times, I was in pain by the time I left the office at the end of the day. The snarky remarks I did let loose were nothing compared to what I wanted to say. The closer it got to retirement, the more snarky comments I made. They weren’t sure if I was joking with my insults of their intelligence or if I was serious.

One of my most treasured memories is the morning after Trump had been elected in 2016. On the day of the election, staff had received a general email inviting everyone for coffee and doughnuts to be served in the staff lounge at 9:00 a.m. the morning after the election. I showed up not realizing that it was supposed to be a celebration of Hillary’s election as President. When I arrived, I witnessed grown women crying.

I soon realized the reason for the coffee and doughnut gathering, and started walking backwards out of the reception room. I said, “I think I’m at the wrong place” and just laughed. I then said, “I think I’ll have a pastry anyway” and walked back inside and grabbed a chocolate eclair before leaving the room while still laughing.

I then told the boss what the celebration was about, and he made the department reimburse the company for the costs of the reception. For events for political causes could not be charged to the company account. It was several months before the department head even spoke to me again. However, I knew I was out of there soon and thus cared not for her opinion.

I still occasionally talk to my former boss and a couple other staff members at the office, (one who would aggravate them all by listening to Rush on her lunch hour—her door was closed and a “gone to lunch” note was on her door, but they would insist on knocking and bothering her anyway), but as to the rest of them, I have no desire to speak to them again.

Why are there any businesses open in NYC? Just shut down and try again is a place that respects what you built and what you do. These commies in NYC don’t give a 💩 about decent people.

“Not prosecuting theft to achieve “racial equity?”.
Results in retailers closing their businesses in those areas as is happening in a great many high-crime and theft areas within Leftist controlled cities. And, when the retailers say enough is enough we’re out of here these same Leftists then scream racist!!! The implication is, those companies should simply stay and accept the crime and financial losses incurred. For Equity.

The more emboldened repeat offenders left on the street equals more dead young people at the hands of police. I truly believe these young men and women are worth more to democrat politician dead than alive.

Martyrs and guaranteed future votes.

A white man needs to go shoplift a bunch of stuff, get arrested, and see if he gets released. If not, sue for equal protection under the law. This can’t be allowed to stand.

"A white man needs to go shoplift a bunch of stuff, get arrested, and see if he gets released. "

I was wondering the same thing.

“A white man needs to go shoplift a bunch of stuff, get arrested, and see if he gets released.”

Good idea. IF the prosecutor assigned to his case doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder and throw the book at the one white guy that has appeared on his case-load in the past year. And, IF the guy arrested is allowed a phone call to ask his family to find an attorney to represent him.
And IF an attorney in NY would be willing to take the risk of representing a white guy. And IF the prosecution doesn’t withhold exculpatory evidence. And IF he is allowed a speedy trial and all the rights afforded him under the Constitution.

Otherwise, one who takes such an action may just disappear into the NY justice system and prisons never to be heard from again.

"Not prosecuting theft to achieve "racial equity?". What if the victim is a poor elderly black woman who is just on her way back from the pharmacy after picking up her medications? What equity does she receive?"

Does he also mean that he won't prosecute theft if it includes someone, like that old lady, being knocked down, kicked, and physically injured, putting her in the hospital? How does he determine when theft goes over the line he's drawn?

The guy is a lying sack of horse dung. I don't know what "friends" he's talking about. He went to the elite private Trinity School on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. His two kids go that private school at the cost of $57,000 a year. Must be Soros is paying for his kid's schooling too. He grew up in one of the wealthiest sections of Harlem, living in a 2 million dollar brownstone. He was sent away every summer to vacation in Virginia. His mother was the dead at Borough of Manhattan Community College, and his father worked for the Urban League.

"IMPEACH HIS A$$"

That won't happen. The City Council consists of 51 Democrats, and 6 Republicans.

I’m scared to ask. Did he reflect this attitude in his LSAT and Bar Exam answers?

I was thinking more along the lines of a group of poor white coal miners from WV stage a home invasion of his place, help themselves to his stuff and post videos of their antics all over social media, laughing all the while.

Wouldn’t that be fun?

Make public Bragg’s, his family‘s and friends’ addresses to gang members, known criminals and see what happens.

We need to asking, 'Does something make us safer?'

Yes, yes it does.

Most crime victims live in the same neighborhood as their victims. By refusing to prosecute one black criminal, he is condemning hundreds of other blacks to be crime victims.
