International research suggests masks better at causing 'long COVID' than stopping virus

Government-backed assumptions about the safety and effectiveness of high-quality mask-wearing against COVID-19 are facing scrutiny from new international research that shines a harsh light on the feds' continued faith in face coverings.

Surgical and N95-grade masks might induce symptoms misidentified as biologically elusive "long COVID," according to a "systematic review" in the peer-reviewed Swiss journal Frontiers in Public Health. It echoes a recent study of Norwegian adolescents and young adults on long COVID's connection to "loneliness" and physical inactivity — conditions exacerbated by pandemic interventions.

A U.K. government metareview found no real-world evidence that N95s and equivalent masks protect those at highest risk of severe COVID, while a U.K. hospital study found "no discernible difference" from surgical masks in "reducing hospital-acquired SARS-CoV-2 infections."

They join a metareview of several dozen randomized controlled trials, updated in January, that found surgical and N95-grade masks made "little to no difference" on either influenza-like or COVID-like illness or "laboratory-confirmed" infections. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky dismissed the study's validity because of its reliance on RCTs.

New York Times columnist Zeynep Tufekci apparently spooked Cochrane, the British-based research collaborative that publishes the ongoing 17-year study, into publicly undercutting the authors' interpretation of the findings, though Cochrane has since contradicted her claim that it made a "correction."

I knew from the beginning that mask did nothing to keep you from getting the virus or from spreading it.

Why? Simple, there was no program in place to treat the mask as biological waste!

In a medical setting anything that can become containment was either disposed in a red biological waste container to be burned or sent to be serialized for re-use.

During the “pandemic” mask were just tossed in the trash or just left where ever.

I doubt I used more then five mask during the entire time, I simply kept the same mask in my car and only putting it on when forced to when entering a building that required mask.

What I did do was wear gloves that I changed after only one use.

In my thinking mask were just a test to see how far they could force us to do something. The question is what is going to be the next test?

What did you do with your clothing you wore each day,
bedding, home appliances you touch each day, etc?

I’d like to know what percentage of patients with “long covid” got the vax.

I think “long covid” is more BS.

Nice post. I had a career surgical nurse leave our hospital Diego the long hours of masking.
She was the real deal and wouldn’t risk her health over the organization kneeling to fauci n birx.

This is what I have been wondering since I heard the term “Long Covid”! I know when I wore a mask for more then a couple hours, the next couple of days I had sinus issues, dry throat and a very light chest congestion. Put it this way, I avoided wearing a mask as much as I possible could!

You make some good points. However, there were reasons why mask mandates were imposed, none of which have anything to do with their effectiveness.

1. Masks were virtue signalling at it’s finest. Wearing a mask said, I Care, therefore I wear.
2. Masks allowed politicians to claim they were doing something even if it wasn’t effective.

I look at people still wearing masks and I think they are stupid. I am getting a shudder of schadenfreude at the prospect that they are actually harming themselves. Unfortunately for them their social media platforms will censor this type of information and their friends aren’t going to tell them. I am not going to tell them.

Wearing a mask to block viruses is like putting chain link fence around your house to block mosquitoes.

Ever seen the movie Idiocracy? Masks are like Brawndo, with the population having just as much reverence to them as the idiots in the movie did to Brawndo.

I copied the below letter to my son who served with Federal Protective Agency and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and went through FLETC training. He said he was issued a respirator and the N-95 masks. He was told cloth masks would be effective against only droplets and should never be used.

When facing hazards, the N-95 mask could be used, but only after ensuring proper seal and negative pressure by following a three-step procedure. Then after a half hour he had to leave the area and reestablish the seal with a new mask. Masks could only prevent receiving and never prevent spreading biological agents

From: Retain Mike Sent: Thursday, October 14, 2021 3:26 PM To: keri.lopez@redmondschools.org Subject: Mask Mandate

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) proclaimed its latest policy about masks and our governor mandated wearing by children as school began.

However, the best science the CDC could provide was uncontrolled studies highlighting first such groups as 139 hairdresser clients, 382 sailors on the U.S.S. Roosevelt, 124 Beijing households, and 839 Thailand residents subject to contact tracing. All results came from observation followed by personal judgement, and none resulted from the mathematical disciplines used to rigorously evaluate complex environments.

In the same article the CDC disparaged the 2020 randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Denmark involving 4,862 participants, which found no benefit to wearing masks to prevent infection. The disciplines of a RCT divides participants into different groups on a randomized basis. Random assignment means that factors not specifically controlled can cancel each other out by appearing equally in both groups. One group receives the treatment (which in this case was the mask) and the other group does not. Researchers can isolate the one variable and are not able to introduce biases to produce a preferred outcome.

RCT’s are considered the highest standard for this type of research. Therefore, the most reasonable approach for the CDC would have been to consider this study as a benchmark against which others would be evaluated, including studies from other countries which found masks ineffective and even harmful.

The above represents an especially valid approach, since the first four combined citations from their May scientific brief had less than half the participants of the Danish study. The proposed approach is especially valid also because the CDC dismissed the study for involving only .001 of Denmark’s population. At the same time polls predicting the decisions of 150,000,000 voters in a national election were determined by less than 1,500 participants or less than .00001.

Nothing special.

My method may not have been any better then “mask” but then I never got sick (from COVID or anything).
