‘We cannot protect our public’: Riverside County [CA] District Attorney

Top law enforcement officials from Riverside County, as well as the district attorney from a nearby county, held a press conference Wednesday where they leveled strong criticism against the perceived revolving door of justice in the state.

Pointing to a rise in crime, officials said offenders are released from jail too frequently. In the city of Riverside alone, police said commercial burglaries are up 31% compared to this time last year.

Hestrin and Bianco said current laws are enabling habitual offenders. Under AB 109, which went into effect in 2011, individuals convicted of crimes that would previously have sent them to state prison are now being housed at county jails, which are overcrowded and not designed for long sentences.

“We have to amend or add a law that says a habitual offender can go to state prison,” Hestrin said. “Under current law, no matter how many crimes that Mr. Bethell commits that are categorized as 1170H under AB 109, we can never send him to state prison.”

Wednesday’s press conference comes on the heels of the state announcing the closure of Chuckawalla Valley State Prison in eastern Riverside County. Law enforcement officials are urging voters to call on their legislators for a change.

Ban assault weapons then everyone will be safe. Once you do that, oh wait, never mind...

Get the democrat liberals out of California govt and we can start to practice common sense justice and incarceration again. That’s the only thing proven to keep law abiding citizens relatively safe. If we can’t do that, it’s just going to get worse and worse.

No wonder everyone’s leaving the state.

Bet they’d find room to lock up someone that kills in self-defense.

We have crime because we tolerate crime.

The first step to ending the chaos is for the people to make up their minds that they have a right to live free of crime. Once that decision is made the next steps follow logically. You repress it. If you have to build more jails, you build them.

You have to come to that decision and you have to have officials prepared to act on it. In too many places we have a populace that has lost their moral compass and corrupt officials who never had one.

This was coming for many years...Most of the Inland Empire are where half of the parolees in CA live. And the high deserts out in Apple Valley, Palmdale, Victorville are gangland with tons of crime. Very sad. Those all use to be good areas not too many decades ago. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans used to hang out in those areas. Violence was nearly unheard of back then.

I know a case where an off duty law enforcement officer just moved into a home a few miles from downtown Riverside. He came home from work just weeks after moving in, and a pickup was in front of his house with his wide screen and a bunch of his stuff piled up in the bed. He chased them around the neighborhood with his stuff flying out of the truck onto the street....Welcome to the neighborhood.

To clarify, Palmdale is in LA County. But not much different. Same thing.

This article is false. Gun control keeps people safe, and California has the best gun control of anywhere! So they are protected by gun control. I learned this from California politicians themselves, so you know it’s true.

At what point does a 2nd Amendment type “militia” get organized and active in California?

Judging from the news, the state is safe ONLY for gun packing criminals and drug cartel punks.

The citizens don’t want to be safe because they keep electing the same filth.
