Former President Donald Trump’s national lead over his nearest rival has surged from an impressive 11 points in January to a gargantuan 33 points despite a wave of bad news for him and President Joe Biden’s stepped-up attacks on the MAGA base.
The latest Morning Consult survey has Republican primary voter support at 56%, up from 52% last month and 45% in January when the widely respected pollster first started testing the 2024 campaign and potential candidacy of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The popular governor, meanwhile, has seen his support shrink from 34% to 23%, though he remains the only Trump challenger in double digits.
Former Vice President Mike Pence is third at 7%. His support hasn’t changed in the four months of polls.
In addressing the growing support gap favoring Trump, the pollster said, “That 33-percentage-point lead over the past several days marks Trump’s largest since Morning Consult’s tracking of the hypothetical matchup began in December.”
In expanding his lead with core Republican voters, Trump has flicked off concerns about his age, rage, and legal challenges.
What’s more, as he prepares to be deposed in a New York state suit Thursday, a week after a Manhattan district attorney indicted him in a hush payment case, the former president has overcome bad news and strengthened his position as the leading 2024 Republican candidate.

Trump is the inevitable nominee. Yet can his brand of self aggrandizement fueled anger and vengeance win in 2024? The 2022 midterms indicated 70%+ of Americans felt the nation is headed in the wrong direction, yet Republicans, with Trump simmering in the background, could not retake Congress. Long question short, was this because of Trump or because he was not embraced sufficiently by the RNC and Mitch McConnell?
When does RdS decide that Florida needs him too much to leave (true)? Has he burnt his bridge to the VP nomination?
I blame Mitch.
“Kyle’s work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, BBC, NPR, POLITICO, and “The Colbert Report.”
Anyone chance “Kyle’s work” isn’t WOKE and untrustworthy? NO imo
Second-guessing Trump has left many of his opponents in the dust scratching their heads—in the business world and in politics.
1) Trump wasn’t running in 2022. The GOP establishment hates the base. Even before Trump, it hated the Tea Party
2) This isn’t your typical election or your typical GOP nominee.
This is a battle over the republic. Either we win or they win and the republic is over.
They are desperately trying to stop Trump. But Biden is down to 33% think he should be reelected. So when people say Trump can’t win a general election I wonder what planet they are on.
Biden is not going to get any better. His policies are extreme and his economic policies are a disaster. His role on the world is pur weakness. Criminals are being allowed back on the street. People are being killed, raped and robbed. Even the city of San Francisco is asking the federal government to intervene because crime is so out of control.
So what you are faced with is a level of dishonesty and a level of corruption like we have never seen before in American history. And it’s going to force Americans to choose between Donald Trump and a corrupt extremist movement that will tell us how we get to live our lives based on what they want us to do.

It's because of election fraud. And that will only be worse in 2024.
I’d put the odds of Biden being on the ticket at 0.00.
Has DeSantis declared his candidacy yet?
81 yo Mitch McConnell - another old coot who won’t leave the stage
I have no idea why DeSantis supporters think this is some kind of killer line.
The answer is no, DeSantis hasn't "declared" – and it is increasingly unlikely that he ever will, as his stealth candidacy is dying on the vine.
Wasn’t 2020 supposed to be the battle for the Republic?
Trump can’t win. He clearly demonstrated that last time.
Well said.
No. However, you’d think by the anti-DeSantis ads on Fox News, that DeSantis has announced his candidacy and is a greater threat to Trump than the Democrats.
Trump knows that being proactive is better than being reactive. A lesson that the rank and file GOP still do not embrace.
Trump and only Trump in 24.
