Sea level rise has long been expected to be an ongoing and worsening problem for U.S. coasts, but scientists have found that some areas are experiencing "unprecedented" levels of rising seas, raising concerns about the fate of already vulnerable communities.
A new study published in Nature Communications on Monday found that since 2010, sea level rise along the nation's Southeast and Gulf coasts has ramped up dramatically, hitting rates that are "unprecedented in at least 120 years." Since 2010, scientists from Tulane University have found that sea levels in those regions have increased by about half an inch every year.
"These rapid rates are unprecedented over at least the 20th century and they have been three times higher than the global average over the same period," said Tulane professor Sönke Dangendorf, who led the study.
Numerous factors play a role in this sea level rise, scientists found, including those that are both natural and human-made. Study co-author Noah Hendricks said that they looked at those causes, including vertical land motion, ice-mass loss and air pressure, but that "none of them could sufficiently explain" the rampant rise.

I may have fallen off of the turnip truck a while back but I did manage to get back on. So can someone explain how sea level is somehow different in some areas of the earth than others?

Well, at first thought, as long at the force of gravity is the same as the rest of the earth, the sea level would be the same. If it’d not, things would not weigh the same. Pretty easy to measure...
Aside from that, that would imply the earth was sinking in those area. This isn’t science.
We had a beach house...depending on winter storms the beach level would vary..what bs.
There has been a picture posted of (allegedly) Plimouth Rock from the 1600s. It’s not even close to being under water.

I find it amazing that the sea level rise is only occurring along the coast lines of the United States.
Now either the coast lines are sinking or the info is suspect. I suspect the Info is B.S. since I haven’t heard of Barack Obama or any other millionaire selling their beach front property.

They should demonstrate to us how they can put more water in their bath tub at one end....or maybe a swimming pool, and the water not run to the other end.
Water finds its own level, therefore water would rise around the globe in all interconnected bodies of water.
Winds and tides can have a temporary effect, but not one that would last 120 years.
What is most likely is that those who are experiencing changes in shoreline should be careful to prove that the earth is not sinking or that the shoreline is not eroding.
Magnetic fields change and there are disturbances in the earth’s surface.
But water finds its own level.
Maybe a picture of a painting from that time period?
Things that could make “sea level” different in one place vs another:
1) Barometric pressure in a given area. A low pressure system is going through? It will lift the water — or rather not press down on it as much.
2) Uplift of the ground under the sea. Undersea volcanos can do this. It will displace the water sideways and that sideways motion of the water will eventually define a higher sea level somewhere.
3) Submarines passing through. Orbital recon for a time used tiny variations in sea level to observe passage of a submarine.
4) Glaciers melting and flowing water into the sea? That can certainly do it. But there is a more subtle effect. If ice melts at the north pole it will have nearly no effect on sea level. It was already displacing water. There is no land under it. But the Antarctic continent is land. Ice on top of it. If that melts, it will indeed affect sea level.
5) Lunar gravity defines tides. An obvious change in sea level.
Coastlines change frequently. I learned this in elementary school geography.
