Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul warned ‘corrupt’ Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg that he could be forced out of office and face arrest after new evidence surfaced in former president Donald Trump’s case.
“Wonder if DA Bragg remembers Durham DA Mike Nifong, who withheld exculpatory DNA tests on the Duke lacrosse players,” Paul said.
“He was subsequently forced out of office, disbarred, and convicted of contempt of court,” the Republican Senator added, referring to Nifong, the district attorney in the 2006 case accusing Duke University lacrosse players of rape before they were exonerated and escaped jail.
In a separate statement just before the news of Trump’s indictment, Rand Paul said, “A Trump indictment would be a disgusting abuse of power,” adding Bragg should face arrest and be “put in jail.”
Meanwhile, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Congress would take action against Bragg after Trump appeared in Manhattan on Tuesday.
A Manhattan grand jury indicted Trump for his alleged role in money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
The former president pleaded not guilty to the 34 charges.
McCarthy vowed to hold Bragg accountable.
“Alvin Bragg is attempting to interfere in our democratic process by invoking federal law to bring politicized charges against President Trump, admittedly using federal funds, while at the same time arguing that the peoples’ representatives in Congress lack jurisdiction to investigate this farce. Not so. Bragg’s weaponization of the federal justice process will be held accountable by Congress,” McCarthy tweeted.
Last month, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Bragg could be indicted for improperly pursuing an investigation against Trump.
“Now it’s time to arrest Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg for prosecutorial misconduct after hiding hundreds of pages of exculpatory evidence!” she wrote.
“Bragg is on the verge of indicting an innocent former President and top Presidential candidate against the opposing ruling party. Bragg is breaking the law and trying to incite civil unrest with his Soros-funded political war. Hold him accountable!” Greene added.
Meanwhile, Trump opponents like former National Security Adviser John Bolton voiced concern that Trump’s indictment could propel him to the White House.
“I’m not worried about Alvin Bragg hurting Donald Trump,” Bolton told CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday following news of the indictment.
“I’m worried about Alvin Bragg benefiting Donald Trump,” he admitted.
I’d guess it’s the pile of evidence provided to the DA by the former lawyer of Cohen Michael Costello who destroyed Bragg’s case.
Rand Paul and MTG are about the only politicians who don’t seem to be two faced liars.
I just saw a headline that had a story that didn’t reveal what the emerging explosive evidence was. The attorney’s grand jury testimony has long been known. Really seems to be a headline looking for a story.
Rand Paul will get Fauci this time...
Well then, Mr. “Genius,” what exactly do you propose that we do about this? Besides of course complaining on an anonymous internet forum about how doomed we are and that we lost the culture war. It should be a simple task for you, since you obviously have mind reading ability.
My point is, at least Rand Paul is attempting to do something about this. Whether he ultimately succeeds is another story entirely. But our side needs to fight back. Wars are not won by complaining and pessimism. They are won by taking action.
Kabuki. All of it.
