KEY POINTS:
* Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday plans to announce a commitment between South Korean solar cell manufacturer Qcells and Virginia-based Summit Ridge Energy to deploy 1.2 gigawatts of community solar power.
* Harris will make the announcement during a trip to the Qcells facility in Dalton, Georgia as part of the White House’s “Invest in America” tour.
* The deal would be the largest community solar order in U.S. history and require the manufacturing of 2.5 million solar panels, Biden administration officials said.

hey border czar look over here.
Will Harris try to explain to us what the sun and electricty are, as if we’re 7 yr olds?
Since when did she become the head of the Commerce Department? I thought she was put in charge of the southern border crisis.
What are those communities going to do for power at night?
So green, having Korea manufacture millions of solar panels for us!
The same thing communities to the north, under the clouds, will do all winter.
If you've heard about the few of us FReepers who own solar and don't do it to save the world from cow farts or such, but to give us some energy independence from the sky high energy prices the Dims keep jacking up, it's like that but for a handful of homes instead of just one home. My solar provides 80% of the power I need in our all electric home. My inverters pull the rest from the grid. Community solar is the same but with a station supporting a neighborhood, pulling from the grid when the neighborhood's needs exceed the solar/battery output.
The financial model, though, is it's part of their power bill. So in that way it's the same as stupidly making the grid depend on solar which does nothing but raise costs. The only time solar has a chance of being financially worth it is if you get rid of the bureaucrats between you and the energy source (installing and managing solar for your own home). And even then you have to think like a project engineer.
Freeze in the dark?
How come no one asks where the energy is stored so that power is available after the sun sets. How big is a 1.2 gigawatt battery and where do the rare earth materials come from to produce it?
Read the fine print. Follow the money.
Invest in America with a billion$ contract with a South Korean company?
These plastic panels are garbage.
I like solar power and wind power in certain situations....But not these commercial eye sours wind power crap.
SUPER. THAT needs to be shown over and over and over. I bet if Harris was asked “what about Solyndra”, she’d try to think what it meant and answer with some cockamamie words and she would fail!!!!! She is unable to utter the words, “I DON’T KNOW.”
She could ask her boss as it was his job as VP to keep track of that funding to Solyndra - AND HE FAILED ALSO!
That border thing is all done. Didn’t you get the memo??
Or else get your CBDC turned off?
Unfortunately, Spain closed it down a few years ago because it was never able to sustain itself by the sale of solar energy alone. It continued to require substantial subsidies from the government which eventually led to the closure.
That’s nice, but you won’t see scenes like this in Albany, Valdosta and Savannah.
“and Virginia-based Summit Ridge Energy “
I see.
Long time democrat donor
Any time I get a call from someone selling solar panels for my home I ask where are your solar panels made? If China or they don’t know I’ll say call me back when you are selling solar panels made in the US.
It’s the now tactful way to say communist solar power. The commies are not the South Koreans. They are the United States.
