The Russian invasion of Ukraine recently passed the one-year mark and I fear the country is on the verge of losing to Russia.
As someone who has visited Ukraine multiple times on humanitarian missions, my last trip convinced me that the country is at a pivotal moment. Morale is slipping. I could see it in the eyes of the children. More importantly, I could hear it in the voices of their leaders, who continue to say all the right things but lack the same conviction as before.
……
While the Russian invasion of Ukraine is just a year old, the nation has been in almost continual conflict since 2014, when Russian-backed separatist movements in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine declared independence, and the Russian government annexed the Crimean Peninsula. As the Ukrainians approach a decade of death and chaos, President Putin knows that the Russians will win a war of attrition.

Didn’t work in Afghanistan, did it
If the Afghans can throw russia out hiding behind rocks and living in caves I have 100% confidence in the Ukrainians
As John Kerry-Heinz would say: DUH.
—> they would eventually loose the gorilla part that would follow.
Given the brutality of Russians, I doubt it will be a problem
As fatigue grows and morale wanes in Ukraine, defeat is a real possibility
Or should the headline be a bit more accurate, saying: Ukraine has no ammunition and has, more or less, run out of 16 and 60yr olds to send the front lines to blown to bits by Russian munitions or massacred by the Wagner Group.
Every drop of blood is on the hands of the warmongers and NeoCons that cannot get enough war. Even though, they themselves never take up arms to fight in them.
At some point, Zelensky will board a plane and be gone. Whether he flies off in the middle of the night, in an unmarked jet, or Putin lets him leave, he’s gone. Off to Western Europe or the US to spend the millions that he has stolen. Leaving his people nothing but a mess after destroying generations of Ukrainian lives.
Them GOrillas are tough cookies.
guerilla
Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt.
You Putlims are entertaining -- I give you that much, and no more -- and your chemobrain leader will be dead within the year and Moskva will fall into anarchy, long before there is an end to this New Soviet war of aggression. And the world -- including Xi -- is fully prepared to fill the sloping slopehead Slavic void LOFL. And none of you Putlims will like the end game. So pucker up, buttercup.
Schadenfreude.
Mariupol
The guys bungling the withdrawal from Afghanistan obviously weren’t our best over the last 6 or so years, and Afghanistan, with its numerous cave systems, is different topography.
Orkrainians aren’t Afghanis.

Ukraine agreeing to the terms of it’s surrender to Russia has always been the way it is destined to end.
The only other option is World War Three and global thermo- nuclear war - and no sane person wants to destroy the world to save a third world Uke dictatorship run by some prancing nancyboy in a dirty t-shirt.
“Scorched earth, meatgrinder warfare, waged by Russia in Ukraine (which the US didn’t wage in Iraq), is meant to stop unending guerilla wars...”
History disagrees with you.
The thing about guerilla war and irregular war is that they don’t end until their aims are achieved; that’s why — once there is commitment — such wars can last for decades. Russia has always faced such wars after “liberating” some country that didn’t want to be liberated. Most imperialist countries face such resistance, and the resistance usually ends up winning in the long run.
“Orkrainians aren’t Afghanis.”
You just showed how juvenile you are with that childish label for Ukrainians.
Ukraine is flat territory, not mountains. However the average Uke looks a lot like the average Rus, so infiltration is easier.
The big thing is supplies. Can the Ukraine get the money, arms, and training to run a terrorism campaign? What happens to those who support that type of campaign?
A Russian blogger was blown up by a Ukrainian woman recently. That is how this is going. However the Russians are not constrained by what is considered moral in war, and I expect further escalation.
There is no clean way to end this war, and a great chance it becomes a bleeding ulcer for a while. Till the area is depopulated again.
Russia started the war.
You are blaming the rape victim for wearing a revealing blouse.
How is the weather in St Petersburg BTW?

lol Russia can not win, period. Even if they somehow Russia wins this part of the war, they would eventually loose the gorilla part that would follow. You can’t win a war against a determined local population under current rules of war. |
Large portions of the 'determined local population' had to become refugees and leave to surrounding nations when Russia flattened the power grid, thereby elminating water, heat, light, supplies. Citizens were permitted to leave contested regions which then became battlegrounds. There are holdouts but they struggle to live - men fleeing to bomb shelters in Russian attacks were being forcibly conscripted into the Ukrainian army, so that now many families remaining hunker in their houses rather than seeking shelter from shelling.
So many able bodied men have been taken to the fighting, and dying there, that there just isn't a significant 'determined local population' left to make any sort of stand. The Ukraine cannot win - period.
Feel free to grab a rifle with no ammunition and fight.

Believe what you want to believe. Obviously, you could care less about the Ukrainian men that have been massacred, while sit at your keyboard cheering on a war you’re not fighting in.
It’s always funny when someone that would be happy to get on their knees for Zelensky goes right to the stand-by....You’re Pro Russia, Pro Putin, blah blah blah.
The weather is a bit cloudy, but warm, just east of Atlanta, thank you. Unlike you, I actually care that Ukrainian teenage boys and old men are being taken off the streets, unable to leave their country and being sent to the front lines to die for nothing.
All while the rest of the world governments are crashing the US dollar and millions are pouring over our border.
